Arni pronounced as "Aranee" literally meaning "Aranya" or Forest, is a small bustling town on the southern banks of the twin rivers "Kamandala Nadhi" and "Naga Nadhi" confluence as "Kamandala Naga Nadhi". The river has witnessed many mythological occurrences along its banks. This is situated in the Tiruvannamalai district of Tamilnadu, erstwhile North Arcot district.Arni has long years of traditions in Hand loom Silk manufacturing, Rice milling, trade etc. This is a taluk head quarter. This Town is managed by the Arni Municipality. Arni is a religious centre with several temples for Sri Kesava Perumal, Sri Rama, Sri Anjaneya, Sri Kailasanathar and more, as also in the surrounding villages. There are many Jain temples as well. Arni is a Junction for several road routes. On the west of Arni about 22 Kms is Padavedu. The deity of Sri Renugambal is very famous all over the country. Around the temple town of Padavedu there are several old temples that have been renovated recently. Sri Yoga Ramachandrasamy temple, Sri Veera Anjaneya temple and Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple at Raghunathapuram. Sri Venugopalaswamy temple at Kottamalai on top of a hill about 8 Kms from Padavedu. This temple is accessible only by walk or special tractor and the temple is open only on Saturdays 9 AM to 3 PM. Padavedu is a Pilgrimage centre and needs at least 2 days to cover all the temples.On the North of Arni on the Arni - Arcot Road are many other important temples, including the Perumal Temple at Thamaraipakkam, Kasi Viswanathar temple at Mosur, Murugan temple near Thimiri and the Spatiga lingam temple at Thimiri.Arni is the ideal place to stay for covering these areas.
