Description of Surrounding Area

People dance on the streets at night in Merida and spend their days in the parks and plazas of this colonial city with its many museums, monuments, old churches and municipal buildings. Nearby are the Maya archaeological sites of Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Xcambo and Dzbilchaltun. The Gulf of Mexico coastal town of Progreso is 25 km north of Merida. The archaeological museum has a rich collection of Mayan artifects and the modern art museum has both a permanent collection and visiting exhibitions. The central market is exotic and has one of almost everything - fruit, vegetables, pets, cages, meat, flowers, hammocks, Panama hats, embroidered clothing, pottery, and silver and even rat traps. It is extensive and always packed with both merchandise and shoppers.

Description of Accommodations

The inn consists of the main house, which is a 19th century colonial home and the guest house, which is a newly constructed two story complex with 4 rooms. The main house has two apartments for the co owners and public rooms for the use of guests. Posada Santiago is located in the historic downtown area of Merida, only 4 blocks from the main square, the Zocalo. All guest rooms have a garden and pool view. The separation between the main house and the guest quarters assures both privacy and quiet, away from street noise.

Description of Rooms/Suites

The rooms have either one queen size or 2 twin beds. Each room is a kitchenette, with refrigerator/freezer, sink, hot plate, coffee service, bottled water [reverse osmosis, considered the method of purification with the fewest impurities], dishes, glassware, and silverware. Each has a private tiled bath with shower; screens on all windows, air conditioning / heating with individual controls, ceiling fans and cable color television.

Pool, jroof-top sunning area. 18-foot privacy fence around tropical garden and swimming pool, on-site continuous Wi-Fi connection, and public rooms can be used for social functions.

Restrictions

Pets are not allowed in guest rooms.This is a not smoking hotel. Guests may smoke only outside in the garden. Children under the age of 17 are not generally allowed, since the pool is not fenced in.

The little hotel is located Barrio Santiago, on Calle 57, between Calle 66 and 68. It is 1 block from Santiago Park and Plaza, 7 blocks from the main bus station, and about 10 km - a 10-minute taxi ride - from the international airport.
