Let's Cook in Umbria (central Italy) - cooking classes and cooking vacations in Italy near Tuscany

Our cooking classes begin at approximately 10.00 a.m. and are generally about 3/4 hours long and include the preparation of a multi-course meal, which you enjoy with wine at the end of the lesson. The Umbrian cuisine is incredibly rich and varied, famed for its heady olive oil; the wines are among the best produced in Italy.
Recipes vary according to the season, utilizing only the freshest ingredients available and providing you with a deeply individual Italian experience. The cooking lessons are great, the food sublime!

4 days cooking package holidays in Umbria during the medieval festival "the Mercato delle Gaite" from 22th to 27th june 2011

Welcome to Umbria! Bevagna is a small town in Umbria. It's a charming and picturesque walled town, that was an important place in ancient Roman days, situated along the Via Flaminia.
It's also home to a festival called Mercato Delle Gaite. For a few days each spring, the town is time-warped back to the middle ages. If you visit during this time, you'll find quite a different place than normal! The townspeople are all dressed in medieval garb, and the locals are very much into the spirit of the event. As you wander through the streets, you'll find all sorts of unusual activities underway, from falconry, to blacksmithing, to paper making. The town is historically divided into four quarters, "Le Gaite". These neighborhoods compete against each other in different events as part of the festival, and there's a real rivalry between them.

Reservations are on request for a minimum of two people.
DAY BY DAY ITINERARY OF THE TOUR

Wednesday 22th june - Arrive in Perugia
Arrival at the country farm "La volpe e l'uva" (Perugia, Central Italy, Umbria, near Tuscany). Check-in your apartment at 4:00pm.

Thursday 23th June - Assisi
Hands-on cooking class starts around 10:00am. You will prepare a four course lunch that you will eat at the end of the class, accompanied by our wines.
The excursion take place from 15.00 to 19.00. You will visit the mystical city of Assisi, a beautiful medieval town based on Mount Subasio, overlooking a peaceful Umbrian landscape. The tour will allow to get to know the main landmarks where st. Francis lived. You can see the st. Francis Basilica whose superior walls were frescoed by Giotto and Cimabue. You will also visit the Eremo delle carceri, one of the oldest Franciscan convents.

Friday 24th June- wine tour/Montefalco/ dinner in Bevagna
Hands-on cooking class starts around 10:00am. You will prepare a four course lunch that you will eat at the end of the class, accompanied by our wines.
The wine tour take place from 15.00 to 19.00. It is a wine tour in winery that produces Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCGS. You will have a guided tour of the vineyard, cellars finishing up with a test of local Umbrian specialties and the wines. You will also visit the medieval cities of Montefalco. Professioanl guide in the tour. You will have dinner in Bevagna in the Medieval Taverna opened during the "Mercato delle gaite" where you can taste dishes prepared according to the antique Umbrian recipes.

Saturday 25th June - Bevagna
Hands-on cooking class starts around 10:00am. You will prepare a four course lunch that you will eat at the end of the class, accompanied by our wines.
The excursion take place from 16.30: you will visit the city of Bevagna and the marked of Gaite. Along the most suggestive streets and corners of the city, the population involves itself in the organization of handicraft shops, of typical markets of antique times .Inspired by the habits described in antique medieval documents, Bevagna proposes the same intense atmosphere of the handicraft activities with noises and gestures forgotten by our times. In the small shops of "canapai", potters, dyers and strikers; capable handicraft maestro realize exclusive objects using the arts and the techniques of the Middle Ages. Sleeping and meals

The farmhouse in the beautiful heart of the Umbria valley, Italy, sourronded by 10 hectares of olive groves, vineyards and fruit trees.
Six independent apartments have been restored around the ancient stone house, which dates back to the 17th century.
It is only 4km far from the historic centre of Perugia and offers a suggestive view of the Umbrian hills. The proximity to Perugia, makes the holidays farm's position ideal for visiting other artistic towns in Umbria , such as Assisi, Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto and the Trasimeno lake.
There is a lovely swimming pool from which you can enjoy the panoramic view. The farmhouse is composed by independent apartments recently restored: bilo-apartments (Rocco, Oca, Fico, Riding)
All apartments have been comfortably furnished in farm-style teak furniture with great attention for detail. The farm lies on a hill and offers absolute peace and quiet with spectacular views of the surrounding hills and Perugia. Facilities in the farm:Swimming pool (6 X 12), Car Park, Garden, Play area for children, Outdoor barbecue, Sell of wine, olive oil and jams.

Hello,
I am Raffaella, the owner of country farm "la volpe e l'uva" and the organizer of the programs of "Let's Cook in Umbria”.
I have been living here since 1996, with my husband who is a musician, and our two children.

The idea of this project was born in 2005 thanks to the lucky meeting with Stefania that like me, loves the region of Umbria, its products and traditions.

She shared my project: to offer a beautiful holiday in Umbria during which people can live in a nice and comfortable apartment surrounded by Umbrian hills, discover the secrets of our traditional cooking and enjoy of the artistic richness of our wonderful region!
She joined my wish to offer guests an unforgettable holiday that combines Italian food, art, and our local culture.

Our programs include cooking classes, half-day tours and meals. You will deal with the professionalism of people in an informal and friendly environment.

The programs on my pages are very flexible and people interested can ask me for changes, i.e. the length of the vacation, the number of cooking lessons and the number and type of excursions.

We can plan together your personal holiday! My presence in the farm is a guarantee for the success of your holiday!
