I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Hacienda Don Juan in Chiapas. They have decorated the old world hacienda in a beautiful manner, using lots of color from regional fabrics. Excellent value for the price and an experience in and of itself. ... more

NIcely done listing. Am reserving and will report back in August after our trip.
San Cristobal de Las Casas is the cultural hub of Chiapas, high in the pine and cypress forests, in a beautiful valley. It is a colonial city with great diversity amongst the colorful indigenous villages that surround the area. Quite internationally cosmopolitan but with deep roots that mix the Spanish and Mexican cultures with that of the indigenous. The city features wonderful churches, museums, arts and crafts markets, gardens, and colonial buildings that have been preserved for nearly 500 years. Day trips are easy to see the Sumidero Canyon near Tuxtla, the village of Chamula, lakes of Montebello, rivers and waterfalls of Agua Azul and Chiflon, the Mayan ruins of Palenque, Tonina, and Chinkultic, and other wonderful areas.
Hacienda Don Juan is an old world Mexican hacienda but with the present day services you wish. Our inn has four stars and is especially appreciated for its personal attention to your every need. It has 25 spacious rooms, and is decorated in a rustic, colonial fashion.
The beautiful stonework and timbers are creatively woven throughout the old world hacienda. Throughout the colonial courtyards, lush gardens, and spacious suites, you will love to wander through the extensive and magnificent collection of oil paintings and antiques, which gracefully exude 19th century Mexico. Immerse yourself in our history, culture, and charm at Hotel Hacienda Don Juan.
Our hotel is located in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood about five minutes from the central square. This will ensure your tranquility and provide you with a charming and restful home to return to after you're invigorating treks throughout San Cristobal and the area.
Each room has its own wood-burning fireplace which we light whenever you wish with “unlimited” firewood, often a very important facet in the highlands of Chiapas. The rooms are adorned with classic Chiapan furniture, regional and classic art and colorful indigenous handicrafts. The beds are very comfortable and the artwork in each room is magnificent.
