Saba is a quaint little island - no casinos, no white sandy beaches, but a well-developed network of nature trails where the hiker can safely enjoy tropical rainforest and walk for hours without encountering anyone. Bird watchers, people interested in butterflies, moths, bats and orchids will not be disappointed. Also, the island is surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean and divers can enjoy spectacular pinnacles, hot springs, rays, sharks, turtles and healthy coral in a fully protected marine park.
The Ecolodge Rendez-Vous, offers comfortable accommodation to nature lovers in 12 cottages situated at the edge of the rainforest. All cottages have a porch with hammock, and most have an ocean view, a full-size bed downstairs plus two twin beds on the loft. Each cottage has a private bathroom and some are equipped with a kitchenette. The Rainforest Restaurant features gourmet cuisine and uses organically grown vegetables from its own vegetable garden. Fresh fruit juices and homemade ice cream and Dutch apple pie are always available. Vegetarian meals are available on request.
Our guests hike, dive, snorkel, relax, and enjoy good food. Watercolour classes are arranged on request and a weekly slide presentation features a virtual hike explaining plant and animal life.
The hotel is not connected to the grid and each cottage has its own solar panel for lighting. Solar showers provide hot water. Pure rainwater is collected off the roofs and stored in cisterns.
To come to Saba you will have to fly to Sint Maarten first. Airport code SXM. Saba is located 28 miles southwest of St. Maarten, reached by a short 12-minute flight on Windward Island Airways. Winair provides 5 easily scheduled connecting flights to and from St. Maarten each day. For more information on Winair (airline code WM), please visit their website at www.fly-winair.com. There is also the possibility to reach Saba by ferry.
