Description of Accommodations

Each individually decorated guest room at The Buttonwood Inn has a private bath. Rooms are furnished with a king, queen, or twin beds. Some of our rooms offer our guests a fireplace, a two-person Jacuzzi, and wheelchair accessibility. All rooms have a radio alarm clock, telephone, and hair dryer.

Begin your day with coffee or tea by the fire in our living room or in your guest room. A full gourmet breakfast will be served later at your own table in our dining room. We have retained the country character throughout our 1820s farmhouse with wide pine floors, period stenciling, antiques, and local artists' works. In the cooler months, afternoon tea can be sipped in front of the fire in either our large, but intimate, living room or the more casual ambience of our family room (Mt. Surprise Room). The Mt. Surprise Room is equipped with a bar area, guest refrigerator, TV/VCR/DVD, extensive movie collection, computer with internet access, games, books, and magazines.

In winter, relax by the fire or in our open air hot tub, or get outside and enjoy trails ideal for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. In summer, hike these same trails or enjoy our own 20' x 40' heated inground pool surrounded by some of the Inn's award-winning gardens.

With over fifty restaurants in the valley, dining options range from ethnic cuisine to the finest in Four Star dining. We'll help find the restaurant that's perfect for you and make reservations where possible. Most are located just minutes away in North Conway Village.

Plan your next small corporate meeting, retreat, or reunion at The Buttonwood Inn where your schedule is our schedule. For a successful meeting each group is given exclusive use of the Inn. You have total flexibility in planning your day. Whether it's an early morning hike and light breakfast before an intensive work session or dinner for you and your friends after a day of shopping and pampering during girlfriend's weekend.

Reserve our fireplaced Mt. Surprise Room with two additional gathering rooms available for breakouts.

A full country breakfast is included daily: fresh baked quick breads, scones or muffins, and a special entree that changes daily. Menus can be arranged for Lunch or Supper meals at the Inn; or, we will happily make reservations for your group at one of our wonderful local restaurants.

Restrictions

Well behaved children are welcome.

The Buttonwood offers a smoke-free environment. For safety reasons and out of courtesy to other guests, smoking is not allowed on the property. Failure to comply with this policy will result in the charge of a $250 cleaning fee for room contamination of bedding, curtains, and rugs. Guests determined to have been smoking on the premises will also be asked to leave the Inn immediately and forfeit the balance of their reservation and deposit.

Even though we have a friendly dog of our own, pets are not allowed in the Inn. We are unable to accommodate guests' pets at this time due to the potential health and safety concerns of other guests.

Rates & Availability

Rates start at $99 per night double occupancy for a traditional room during quiet season and vary by room type and season.

One night's deposit or 50% of total booking (whichever is greater) is required at the time of booking. Deposits are applied to last day of reservation. Early checkouts forfeit the deposit and are responsible for all nights booked. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express at the time of booking. Personal checks (received within 5 days of the reservation request date) are accepted.

Other Information

Check in is 3:00 to 9:00 pm, unless prior arrangements are made with the innkeeper. Check out is by 11:00 am.

Refund of deposit less $35 cancellation fee will be credited with 14 days notice in writing via email or letter, except during Fall Foliage requiring 21 days notice.

The following exception applies to Polar Express Packages: there will be no refund unless lodging and tickets can be re-sold at the original value.
Unlike some hotels, we do not "overbook" our rooms. We hold guest reservations for the dates our guests request. Thus we need to refuse other potential guests. As a result, if a guest leaves earlier than their reservation calls for, they will be charged for the entire reservation unless we can rent the room to another guest.

Gift Certificates are non-refundable. However, they can be applied to another date if a request to change the original booking is received within 21 days of the booking date.

Directions

From North Conway Village... From Rt. 16, at traffic light turn east onto Kearsarge Street. Follow 1.5 miles to stop sign. Straight across intersection to Mt. Surprise Road. Up Mt. Surprise Road, bearing left, to Inn.

From Boston... I-95 North to Portsmouth, NH. Spaulding Tpk. North to end. Rt. 16 to North Conway OR Rt. 93N to Exit 23 (Rt 104E), to Rt. 25E to Rt. 16N to North Conway.

Follow above directions from North Conway Village or follow instructions below to Bypass Shopping District using the new North-South Road which connects Kearsarge Street with Route 302.

From New York City... NY thruway North (Major Deegan) to Rt. 287 East to 684 North to I-84 East. I-90 (MA Tpk.) East to Rt. 290 North (Exit 10), 290 North to I-495 to I-95, then follow directions from Boston.

From Portland Maine... Travel Route 302 West to North Conway. Then follow directions to bypass Shopping District or directions from North Conway Village.

From Montreal... Travel East to Sherbrooke, then South on I-91. Then follow directions below.

From Northwest ... I-91 South to St. Johnsbury, VT. I-93 South to Littleton, NH. Rt. 302 East through Crawford Notch. Route 302 will merge with Rt. 16 from the North in Glen. Continue traveling south on Route 302/16. After approximately 3.3 miles, there is a highway sign for "The Buttonwood Inn - Hurricane Mt. Road". Take the SECOND left, ..3 miles. (Pass the entrance to Rt. 16A, Intervale Loop, even though your instinct will be to turn!) Turn left up Hurricane Mt. Road. Go 1.2 miles. Turn left onto Mt. Surprise Road and you'll see a black highway sign for The Buttonwood Inn pointing left. Bear to the left. The road will turn to dirt. You will see our sign straight ahead and our driveway just to the right of the sign.

From I-93 in Lincoln, NH... In Summer (May to mid-November): Come across on the Kancamagus Highway (Rt. 112), approximately 24 miles. Then turn left onto Bear Notch Road. (This road is closed in the winter!) Follow Bear Notch Rd. to the blinking light in the center of Bartlett. Turn right at the light onto Rt. 302 East. Follow the directions above from Glen. This is a great route for scenery and missing North Conway traffic. In Winter: Come across on the Kancamagus Highway (Rt. 112) to the end in Conway at the intersection of Rt. 16. Follow the directions below and bypass North Conway's shopping district. With over 100 name-brand outlets to choose from, you may run into traffic delays as visitors try to decide which shops to visit!

From the South - Bypass Shopping District... Traveling from the South on Rt. 16, at first set of traffic lights in Conway, take a left onto Washington St. After 1/2 mile bear left at the fork onto West Side Rd. Follow this road until it ends at a stop sign, then turn right onto River Road. When you come to the stop lights, continue straight through. At the stop sign in front of John Fuller school, turn right. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Mechanic Street. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Kearsarge Street. Now follow the directions above from North Conway Village.
