Description   Tropical Adventures

Tropical Adventures welcomes you to our Volunteer and Adventure Hostel. You need not be a volunteer in our program to stay with us. We are a kind, friendly group and we welcome like-minded folks to join us!

In addition to a full, complimentary breakfast, our house offers 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, Common TV, High-speed wireless internet access, and a large, fully-equipped kitchen.

Though not quite on the beach, you can still hear the surf from the ocean, which is just 300 meters away. We're located about 1 mile from downtown.

In addition to in-house amenities, we have also laundry service, rental bikes, snorkel and boogie boards available.

Not only are we affordable, but you can feel good about spending money with a non-profit organization working hard to make positive change in the community.

Directions

From the airport or anywhere in San Jose, take a taxi to 'Terminal Caribe' Bus Station. Note there are 3 main terminals in San Jose and it is very important you go to Caribbean Station. At Caribe Station, you go to the ticket counter behind all food outlets. You ask then for ticket to Puerto Viejo Talamanca. Please note there is another Puerto Viejo in Siqirres and you do not want that bus. The booth to buy the bus ticket to the correct Puerto Viejo is directly in front of the ATM machine. The direct bus ticket cost is approx $8.

There are 5 buses a day (6:00 am, 10:00 am, 12 noon, 2:00 pm & 4:00 pm). There is one stop just outside of Limon for a bathroom and drink break. Count on needing at least 2 hours from plane arrival to go through customs and get a taxi from airport to bus station. For example; If your plane arrives at 12:30 in the day time, you will have to look at catching 4:00 pm bus.

If you take the bus right into town of Puerto Viejo (final stop), there will be taxis waiting to offer you a ride. The maximum cost should be $4 or 2,000 colones to Playa Negra. Please remember to negotiate the rate before getting in as all cars here have no meters. Just give them instructions below.

If you have no luggage underneath the bus, you can get out at Playa Negra stop 1 kilometer before Puerto Viejo. This will allow you to walk to Tropical Adventures Jungle Residence. Please note our house is located in the district of Playa Negra. There is also a Playa Negra in Cauhita, which is the town the bus stops before Puerto Viejo. You want Playa Negra, Puerto Viejo.

5 kilometers before Puerto Viejo, the road turns to gravel (this is where you would get off the bus if you have no luggage underneath). Once you are on that road, you will pass San Francisco Hardware store (on left), then you will drive until you see signs for Perla Negra Hotel. There is a bus stop with yellow roof and a corner store at that turn off called Pulperia Violeta.

Tropical Adventures is just down that road from the Perla Negra Hotel, about 500 meters. You will pass another hotel called 'Banana Azul' on your right. We are approximately 300 meters past Banana Azul on your left-hand side. It's a large house with dark wood stain, blue trim, a large porch, and green gate.

If you get lost, please ask where Banana Azul is and then the receptionist can get you to us.
