Located minutes from world-class windsurfing on Lake Arenal and overlooking a lush valley full of monkeys and toucans, El Nidito Guesthouse is a sanctuary for anyone wishing to get a feel for Costa Rica’s pura vida. With a hot tub, fireplace, comfy beds, an enormous deck, and outdoor and indoor showers, El Nidito not only provides the basic amenities but also the little extras that will make your stay ultra-relaxing. On the guesthouse grounds, guava, almond, papaya, and orange trees play host to countless species of birds while vine-covered walls foster a peaceful atmosphere of utmost privacy.

Kate and Samantha, the proprietors of El Nidito, will make your stay as memorable as possible by providing a warm and open atmosphere, delicious homemade meals, transportation options, and personalized help with planning expeditions and daily activities. With a strong knowledge of the area that comes from eight years of living and playing around Lake Arenal, Kate and Samantha can help you discover the best that Costa Rica has to offer, both on and off the beaten path.

A multitude of outdoor activities are located within an hour’s drive: Take a canopy tour through the rainforest and get a bird’s eye view of the Arenal Volcano. Mountain bike through some of the world’s most challenging terrain. Ride horseback through farmland and forest to swim under a waterfall. Relax in hot spring pools with a piña colada. Get big air while kiteboarding. Hike along streams while groups of howler monkeys nap above you. And after all that, unwind in the hot tub at El Nidito with a homemade margarita and enjoy the sunset.

The main house has a full bed and a twin bed, with plenty of room for a couple or small family. A full bathroom and stocked kitchen border the living area and each has large windows with wonderful views of the valley. The separate bodega, only steps away from the main house, has a queen bed and twin bed, along with a half-bath and easy access to the full bathroom. A washer and dryer, telephone, secure storage areas, and free parking is available. El Nidito is 20 minutes from Tilaran, a medium-sized town with internet cafes, banks, grocery stores, and many other services. Liberia International Airport is 1 ½ hours away and airport transportation options are available.

Bodega:
2-person room
Private, small bodega with half bath on beautiful, immaculate grounds. Tranquil setting with hot tub, guava trees, outdoor shower and, bus station or Liberia airport pickup. Includes breakfast.

El Nidito Main Guesthouse:
3-person room (one queen, one twin)
Beautiful, private loft home complete with indoor/outdoor bath, outdoor yoga studio and stocked kitchen. Guava and almond trees, howler monkeys and world class windsurfing are only a few of the attractions that are right in your backyard. As always, free bus station pickup and Liberia airport pickup. Breakfast included.

Directions

Take Highway 1 to Cañas. In Cañas follow the signs to Tilarán. There will be a T-crossing as you leave Cañas. Take a left there. You will see the windmills that are around Lake Arenal ahead of you and to your left. As you enter Tilarán there will be a steep uphill. Eventually there will be a very sharp left you have to take. There is a restaurant/souvenir shop on that corner. This road will go down, then cross a bridge and then steep uphill until you pass a gas station. This is the last gas station if you are planning to stay in the Sabalito area. Then take the next paved road left. You will see the lake on your right hand side and you will be going clockwise around it. You will pass Hotel Tilawa and the Tilawa Water Sports site. Then there will be a sign for Hotel Pizzeria Mystica leading you to a left turn steep uphill. This road passes Mystica. Two minutes later you will be in Sabalito and will cross over two speedbumps. About two kilometers past Sabalito, there will be a driveway on your left bordered by orange clay walls, with a streetlight directly across the street. You have arrived at El Nidito Guesthouse!
Buses run daily between Tilarán and Liberia, and between Tilarán and San Jose. We provide free pick-up from the Tilarán bus station.
