The Plough at Kelmscott is the type of Cotswold pub that people dream of finding, and offers just about everything that you are likely to need. It was built in 1631 and It is tucked away in the small picturesque village of Kelmscott, near Lechlade.

Kelmscott sits on the edge of the Cotswolds, on the border of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire. Kelmscott has a truly magical and enchanting feel about it, and the special feeling of the area seems to run through the foundations of this wonderful pub. The Plough has a warm atmosphere, welcoming all types of visitors including children and pets. With crackling log fires and exposed brick, there is a traditional charm that runs throughout the interior. While the pub has a classic rustic look, the whole inn has been renovated and the facilities are excellent. There is a real 'home, away from home' feeling about the place.

The Plough is not just a great pub, the Plough's restaurant has developed an excellent reputation in the local community for its exceptional selection of delicious food. With a full a la carte menu, a fish menu and a varied bar menu, there really is something for everyone. The Plough at Kelmscott also offers eight high-quality guest rooms. The Plough is a mere stone's throw from the beautiful upper reaches of the river Thames. Following the bends around water meadows, enjoy the scattering of dream-like cottages. The Plough at Kelmscott makes a great base from which to explore the surrounding counties of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire. The Inn is also a short walk from Kelmscott Manor, once home to the artist and founder of the arts and craft movement, William Morris. The Manor is a particularly fine example of a Cotswold-style dwelling of the 16th and 17th Century. It contains Morris's possessions and a selection of his works, as well as those of his associates, including original furniture, carpets, textiles and ceramics.

The Plough of Kelmscott is ideal for spending some quality time with a partner/group of friends, or a perfect stress-relieving weekend break. You can get some exercise and fresh air during the day, and enjoy delicious food, and a comfortable relaxed atmosphere in the evening. Directions

From the North (M1):

Leave M1 at junction 21 and take M69 towards Coventry. Take A46 to Warwick. Take A429 to Stow-on-the Wold. A litlle on from Stow-on-the Wold take A424 Burford followed by A361 to Lechlade. At Lechlade go left onto A417 to Farringdon. Look for Kelmscott signpost on the left. Follow the signs to Kelmscott.


From London via M4 (Swindon):

Leave M4 at junction 15 (Swindon). Head north on A419 towards Cirencester. Take A361 (right turn) to Burford. At Lechlade take A417 to Faringdon. Look for Kelmscott signpost on the left. Follow the signs to Kelmscott.


From London via M40 (Oxford):

Bypass Oxford on the M40. Take A40 exit to Cheltenham. At Witney take A4095 to Faringdon. Look for the Kelmscott signpost on the right after the village of Clanfield. Follow the signs to Kelmscott.
