The Monk's Bunk

Before you start reading further... The Monk's Bunk is a chilled hostel for single travelers and small groups only. We definitely like to have fun, but we are not a party hostel and we also will not accept any group bigger than 6 persons.

The Monk's Bunk is a laid back hostel in the heart of Tallinn Old Town with great facilities, spotless clean bathrooms and friendly backpackers staff.

Located on the main pedestrian street in the Old Town, you find yourself in the middle of it all with the main sights, museums, clubs, pubs and restaurants just a stone's throw away from our hostel door.

We recently did major renovations in order to create you the ultimate backpackers hostel. Our facilities are up to the highest possible standard, with brand new bathrooms, a big fully equipped kitchen, key card access to the rooms and custom made bunks built out of natural wood.

Our fantastic staff will make sure you will feel welcome from the moment you walk in. We have a very cozy living room which is the perfect place to meet up with fellow travelers, or just to chill out, read a book or watch a movie from our projector screen.

For those who want to do something different, we arrange day time activities like AK47 shooting packages and tours to the Lahemaa National Park or the former Soviet town Paldiski. In the night time we organize FREE pub crawls together with Tallinn Backpackers, during which we take you out to the best bars and clubs in town, arranging you discounts as well.

DIRECTIONS TO THE MONK'S BUNK

Coming from the harbor:

The easiest way to get here is to simply walk towards the old town (look for the big church) until you find yourself on Mere puiestee (large four laned street). Turn left on Mere puiestee until you come to a large intersection you will see a big building with a sign on it saying Venus club walk up Viru St passed the Venus building, pass Hesburger and through the Viru st Gates. Walk 50m until Goodwin Steak House is on your left. We are above them.


Otherwise, if you find yourself at the Pikk street gate entrance (near the big Fat Margaret tower) walk into old town and take the first street on the left close to the big church. This will lead you to Sulevimägi street. Turn right and follow the block down and around the corner to the intersection. Then turn right onto Vene street and follow it all the way down until you find Olde Hansa restaurant on your right and Viru street on your left, turn left onto Viru street and start walking towards the Viru St gates. About 50m before you reach the gates you will see Goodwin Steak House on your left. We are above them.

Coming from the bus station:

Take tram #2 outside the main entrance of the station 4 stops and get off at Hobujaama. You will then be very close to the Viru street entrance walk towards the old town, you will see a big building with a sign on it saying Venus club. Walk up Viru St to the left of the Venus building, pass Hesburger and through the Viru st Gates. Walk 50m until Goodwin Steak House is on your left. We are above them.

Coming from the airport:

Take the bus #2 to the A. Laikmaa stop. You will see the Viru Keskus shopping centre. Walk through it and exit into the park. Follow the crowd and paths towards the old town, where you will see the Viru street gate towers next to a Hesburger restaurant. Walk through the gates 50m, we are above Goodwin Steak House.

Coming by taxi:

Taxis that you find on the street tend to overcharge. Try to negotiate a price with them and try not to pay more than 10 euros (150 EEK). If you can, it's much more reliable and cheaper to order a taxi on +372 638 0000 to pick you up (pay attention to the car number that they tell you) and expect to pay 50-125 EEK, depending on traffic and whether you are coming from the harbour, bus station or airport. The Taxi won't be able to drop you off right outside the hostel because they are not allowed to drive up the main street. Ask them to drop you off at Viru st Hesburger. Once there start walking towards the Viru St gates. About 50m past the gates you will see Goodwin Steak House on your left. We are above them.


Coming by car:

It's impossible to park in the old town, but the closest car park is just outside, on the end of Uus street. From there you can follow the directions from the harbour above.
