El Gastor is the perfect location to base yourself to enjoy the stunning scenery of the nearby Grazalema Natural Park, the Sierra de Ronda and the Sierra de la Nieves. There are loads of outdoor activities available - horse riding, mountain biking, walking and hiking, rock climbing, canyoning and para gliding (the World Championships took place 3 years ago in nearby Algodonales). We are situated just above the shores of Lake Grazalema which is popular for fishing, kayaking and canoeing and swimming in the turquoise waters. Just a 40 minute drive and you reach the new championship golf course at Arcos Gardens, Arcos de la Frontera and a little further on the Motorcycle Grand Prix circuit at Jerez.
Wildlife watching is fantastic; ibex, eagles, griffon vultures and many species of migratory birds. In the spring there is an abundance of wild flowers (including several indigenous orchids) which make walking a delight.
Furthermore, you could not choose a more central location to enjoy sightseeing in the great Andalucian cities of Jerez, Cadiz, Seville, Granada and Cordoba. Also, not too far away, are the coastal resorts of the Costa del Sol and the unspoilt Costa de la Luz.
All in all, a perfect holiday area for those who wish to experience the real Spain and enjoy its people and the Andalucian way of life.
There are buses coming from Seville (Line 9, 10 & 11), from Olvera (Line 31), from Malaga (Line 32). Bus stop is : Ronda.
El Gastor is just off the main Ronda/Algodonales/Seville road - the A374. Keep an eye out for the km signs on the side of the road as the only El Gastor turning you should take is between 6km and 7km, any other turn offs will bring you into the wrong end of the village.
Follow the signs to ElGastor (4km up a good but winding road). After 3kms on this road, you will see a metal crash barrier and a CA-049 km 1 sign - after another 700m there is a small group of white houses on your left and an ornamental water through called the Fuente de Gato on the right. Just after the through you will see a concrete road - turn right here, it is signposted to Algarrobales and there is a 70km speed sign just before it. If you pass a petrol station on your left you have missed the turning and have gone too far. Take this road up into the pine trees, where it forks bear left. This brings you down in a parking area. Our house is the 3rd on the left.
