Summer Camp in Ireland

Activity/Tour

Summer camp is perfect for USA teens of Irish descent (or who like Ireland). You will do a little bit of everything - you do some stuff in the classroom on Irish studies with excellent local teachers, you travel around Ireland, including some time in Dublin City, you meet other students who are from Europe, doing other camps, you do inter-cultural activities , talent shows, surfing, hiking - there is a huge mix of activities so that everyone will have a very wide cultural experience. It is super-friendly too, lots of kids come on their own, and there is always a really happy atmosphere.

Typical Day

Typical day will begin after breakfast with some Irish studies work - this usually covers a little bit of Irish history, some Gaelic chat, some music, some discussion on differences between Ireland & USA and we usually integrate the classroom stuff with a relevant visit to a cultural site in the afternoon. Sportier students have the option to go surfing or climbing if they prefer, and in the evening, we will all get together (students from Ireland, UK, Spain, France, Germany) for an 'Olympic games' on the beach. Then, before bed time, watch a movie and make popcorn....

Age range, type of group

Summer Camp is for teens, youngest age is 11, eldest is 18. For older students, please see our college programs, for family and group vacations, faculty-lead vacations and any other trip from USA- Ireland, just email us and tell us what you need.

Sleeping and meals

Our own campus is at Donegal Adventure Centre, we have on-campus accommodations of en-suite rooms, we have two buildings, usually a male and a female building for the duration of summer camp. Friends can choose to stay together, or request to share with student from a different country. There is a restaurant on campus, and lunch and dinner are served there daily. Breakfast is served in the communal kitchens of the residences. While travelling around Ireland, accommodation is most often in hotels, with meals eaten locally for best cultural experience.

Policies & Restrictions

For a full set of policies, please see our application & information packs. We accept male and femals students from ages 11-18 for summer camp. There are no pre-requisites - anyone interested in a wonderful cultural experience is welcome. We have a no-tolerance policy regarding alcohol and drugs - anyone found connected with such will be returned home. We do not tolerate bullying or any form of social disrespect.

Fee for Summercamp is approx 2,000 euro (not including airfare.) Discounts and offers are available, please contact us directly.

Other Information

Adventure Ireland is running since 1996, (the program was launched in Dublin by Ambassador Jean Kennedy-Smith) and we have had wonderful programs every summer since then. It is the only Irish summer camp for USA teens that is part of a full-time educational program, and it is the only Irish summer camp which offers an authentic experience of Ireland, in Ireland, with Irish teachers and counsellors. We have twice been awarded the Irish Tourist Board's 'Welcome Ireland' award, and we very much focus on the happiness and safety of every teen who comes to us.

Adventure Ireland run programs for high schools and colleges- individual students & faculty lead trips. We have a summer camp for high school teens from USA each July, and a Fall and Spring semester for college students. We also arrange faculty lead and school tour programs for groups wishing to visit Ireland for short or long periods. We include Irish studies, tours, field trips, Gaelic language & sports, visits to places of cultural and historical interest, and we custom-design trips for schools and colleges.
