Membership is required in order to stay in a HI-USA hostel. Both foreign and domestic guests arriving without a membership at check in can become members and stay by either purchasing a Daily Membership for $3 per day or a one year HI-USA adult or senior membership.


Directions


By Bus
Arriving by Bus at the Memorial Union (Van Galder or Badger Bus), you can either...

...take another bus...
Walk to State Street and catch a bus to Capitol Square (most buses go there).
Exit at Pinckney Street.
Go right and walk down King Street (not Martin Luther King Boulevard).
Turn left on Butler Street, and the hostel is on the right.
...or walk (approx. 20 min)...
Walk up State Street.
Go around the square.
Turn onto King Street (not Martin Luther King Boulevard).
Turn left onto Butler Street, and the hostel is on the right.
...or take a taxi (about $3).
Arriving by Bus at the Badger Bus Depot, you can either...

...walk (approx. 20 min)...
Walk ½ mile up West Washington to the Capitol.
Turn right onto the Capitol Square.
Walk around the Square.
Take a right onto King Street.
Take a left onto Butler, and the hostel is on the right.
...or take a taxi (about $3).

By Car
From Chicago, Milwaukee, or the Twin Cities (Interstates 90 and 94), exit onto Route 30 towards Madison.
Take the East Washington exit to the State Capitol.
Turn left onto South Butler Street (there is no light), two blocks before the Capitol.
The hostel is on the left, about two blocks down.


From the Airport
...from Monday through Friday...
Take the #24 bus to the North Transfer Point.
At the North Transfer Point, take the #2 or #4 bus.
For either bus, exit at the Capital Square.
At the square, walk to King Street.
Walk two blocks away from the Capital to the corner of Wilson/King/S. Butler
Take a left onto S. Butler Street and walk to the hostel.
...but on weekends you must take a taxi (about $13).

Hostelling International USA is a membership organization.
While purchasing a membership is recommended, it is not required: all non-members will be subject to a small fee.
