Dar Nour Asilah

This traditional Moroccan house, named Dar Nour, refurbished in 2010 with typical decor and furnishings as well as mod cons, is located in a charming cul-de-sac just outside the walls of the Asilah Medina. It is a town house structure with 4 floors, including roof terrace with views of the Atlantic just 200m away. A car may be parked very close to the house with no problems. The house provides easy access to the Medina and other parts of the town of Asilah, and an immersion in traditional Moroccan life in a laid-back, \'no hassle\' place. Asilah is a smallish, very pretty fishing town 40 Km south of Tangier on the Atlantic coast, and is accessible within 30 min by taxi from Tangier airport. Its location provides a good base for excursions to Tangier itself, but is much more tranquil, as well as Chefchaouen and Tetouan further afield. Great Atlantic beaches are located just to the south and to the north of the town. An English-speaking Moroccan assistant meets guests at the town gates.

Other: Roof terrace: large terrace with table and 6 chairs, plants, view of town and Atlantic Ocean 200m away.
Upper roof terrace: accessible by wooden steps, provides best view of sunset!
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service: All towels and linen and cleaning services are included.

Local shops and the covered market by the Medina wall are within 5 minutes or so walk, stocking food and all sorts of hardware goods. Also close are bazaars with plenty of traditional handicrafts at quite good prices. You can also have objects made to measure by local artisans (such as the mirrors and tables in my house). In the modern town centre (about 10 minutes\' walk) there are Moroccan banks (where you can use VISA cards etc. to get cash from cash dispensers), post office, off-license. Throughout there are several good restaurants at very reasonable prices, and the seafood is especially good.
Important Note regarding food: we have a lady who will cook typical Moroccan dishes such as couscous for you upon request, if you buy her the produce in the market (she is the same person who cleans the house).

Directions

Asilah lies on the Atlantic Coast of Morocco, 40 Km south of Tangier. It is easily accessible from Tangier by bus, train or taxi (collective taxi system in Morocco, from the "Gare Routière").

Tangier is just 9 miles from Spain (Tarifa), and is served by ferries from Tarifa and Algeciras. The fast ferry from Tarifa takes 35 mins, and the longer one from Algeciras about 2 hours.

Tangier airport (called Ibn Batouta Airport, formerly Boukhalef Aiport, airport code TNG) is connected by flights from major cities in Europe, including London, Paris, Madrid, Brussels among others, and via low-cost airlines such as easyJet & Atlas Blue (part of Royal Air Maroc) ; flight times from London are about 2 ¼ hours, from Madrid about 1 ¼ hours. From Tangier airport, Asilah is only about 35 Km distant, and can be reached by taxi, or rental car.

Asilah has a train station 1 Km outside of town, a major motorway connecting the north and south of the country, and bus and taxi stations.
