The \'Auberge Alternative\' opened it\'s doors in 1996 as the dream child of travellers wanting to make their lives meet their values. The auberge fuels itself on the positive energy of people wanting to create and evolve. The art of travelling moves us through internal as well as external landscapes and often a creative urge demands to link the two. The Auberge Alternative is an arts hostel providing resources to travellers to do just that and to join us in redefining bohemia for a new era.
An \'auberge\' translates as an \'inn\' and ours is situated in a 1875 Old Port warehouse, which we restored and rejuvenated. We used what we had, and in a sense, what we didn\'t have, to create an art house. The basic attributes and rich textures of the old city building: the rock walls, the old hardwood floors, the arched windows and high ceilings; we were able to restore. The minimalist budget forced inspiration and encouraged a passion to achieve our goals against what seemed at the time impossible odds.
We reinvent ourselves regularly and the recent renovations and upgrades include the arts space exhibiting work of travelling and resident artists, new bathrooms (winter 09) and new luxury mattress\' and beds. Welcome to the contemporary hostel
Directions
From Trudeau Airport:
Take the shuttle to the city center terminal and ask to transfer to the minibus to the hostel. The price is $15 per person. Or, check our web site for other options.
From the Bus Station:
Take the escalator to the Berri-UQAM metro station located under the bus terminal. Take the orange line direction Côte-Vertu. Get off at Square Victoria metro station. Follow the directions to rue St-Jacques. When you arrive outside, look to your left for a map of the area. The hostel is shown on the map about a 3 minute walk away.

En provenance de la station d'autobus
Suivez les indications pour la station de métro Berri-UQAM située tout juste en dessous du terminus d'autobus. Après avoir payé 2.75$ pour le passage, prenez la ligne de métro au tracé orange, en direction de Côte-Vertu. Sortez à la station Square-Victoria. Suivez les indications pour vous rendre sur la rue St-Jacques. Une fois à l'extérieur, vous apercevrez à votre gauche une carte du secteur. L'Auberge y est indiquée. Il vous faudra alors 3 minutes de marche pour vous rendre chez nous.
En provenance de Boston ou de New York
À partir de la frontière canado-américaine, suivez les indications pour vous diriger vers Montréal. Vous traverserez le fleuve St-Laurent en empruntant le pont Champlain. Après le pont, prenez la deuxième sortie, il sera alors inscrit 'Downtown'. Roulez sur 2 ou 3 kilomètres sur cette autoroute. Prenez la seconde sortie appelée Wellington/Notre-Dame sur votre droite. À la 5e intersection, tournez à droite sur Notre-Dame. Après avoir traversé une grande artère nommée rue McGill, tournez à droite sur la rue St-Pierre, notre rue. Notre auberge se trouvera à votre droite, après la rue St-Paul. Au besoin, vous pouvez toujours nous rejoindre au (514) 282-8069.
En provenance de Québec
Suivez les indications pour Montréal (autoroute 20). Vous traverserez le fleuve St-Laurent par le pont Jacques-Cartier. Au bout du pont, demeurez dans la voie de droite. Rendez-vous jusqu'au bout de la rue et tournez à droite sur Viger 720. Roulez environ 5 minutes, mais ne prenez pas le tunnel. Demeurez sur la rue Viger à la droite du tunnel. Tournez à gauche sur la rue St-Urbain. Il y a une station métro au coin de St-Urbain. Vous traverserez 5 ou 6 rues avant de rejoindre la rue St-Paul. Tournez à droite et continuez 2 minutes jusqu'à ce que vous croisiez la rue St-Pierre, notre rue. À l'intersection de St-Pierre et de St-Paul, vous apercevrez peut-être une galerie d'art avec des nus flamboyants ou alors une sympatique boulangerie qui lui fait face.
