The apartment is situated in the heart of the City of Berlin. You will find many of typical Berlin houses with a lot of decorations from the end of 19th century. The house is built in 1900, and stands at a crossing which is totally in pre-war condition. You will find cafés and restaurants of lot varieties just down in the Graefestreet. The street has still its copperstones, and is silent because of reduced speed. But of course you can parc your car, without costs. Join public traffic within one bloc only, you will find to subway lines, one to former East, one to the West Center. The distance to our nice, quiet channel is also only one bloc. From here you can start to a romantic boat tour, which is the nicest way to eplore the City. Situated in the famous-notoriously district of Kreuzberg, you have a lot of alternative shops and cultural attractions.

The house, a typical dwelling house from 1900, in in a good condition, renovated a few years ago. Of course, the apartment is provided with heating system, hot water and all modern comfort. But the look and the charme is still the old from pre-war. The same is reported from all houses at the crossing, and many more down the streets. Film makers often turn there movies in one of the streets of the "Graefekiez", our neighbourhood, if they look for the old typical Berlin.
The whole flat has 120 square meters and three rooms, that means enough space for you and your hosts. The host lives together with his boy-friend and our nice Golden Retriever "Miss Bootsmann" in the apartment, and works there as a graphic designer. We love to welcome guests from everywhere from the world, as a enrichment of our live.

The guest room is fully equipped with a big four-poster bed for romantic nights. Completes with a chandeler and the old decorated ceiling with angels! For your stuff you will find enough space to store, and small racks for your suitcases. The wooden floor is standard in these buildings and convenient for your feet after long days of sight-seeing in Berlin. The four-poster bed is equipped with two matelases which are especially produced for people with back problems. They're separated, so you don't disturb your partner, but you can't feel this. Fresh linnen, of course, is provided. An old secretary is the second highlight of the room. I've found it in our district, and it's "Louis Philippe"-Style from late 19th century. It's full with books of the Old and New Berlin, pre- and post-war, pre- and post-wall, if you are interested. Additionally you will find a lot of brochures about traffic system, metro, ship- and boat-tours, infos about parliament house, museum (island), theater, opera, ballet, shows and many more. In the small corner behind there is a computer (Mac) with steady access to internet. Of course you can use also your private laptop with WLAN. Chairs and Mirrors complete the furnishment.
Additionally, we offer a fully equipped 2-bedroom-apartment, just two houses next to our flat. It's fully equipped, one of the bed-rooms is normally the living-room. For more details see the descriptions given to the pictures.
In the "apartment" (our expression for our rent-out-ap.) however, you are the single guest/s and use your bathroom on your own. It's situated in a side building at an inner court, reached by the hall way through the front house (also a lovely decorated dwelling house from about 1900). The apartment is in the ground floor, so you don't need to bring your luggage upstairs. It's very quiet because noise from the street don't get to your ears. The neighbours are friendly and silent. When you enter the apartment from the stairway, you enter a small corridor. The the left hand side you will find the bathroom (with tube and shower and toilet). The next room to the left hand side is the (first) bedroom. Straight ahead you enter the big living room (=2nd bedroom, if you need/want). Behind the living room you find the kitchen. So you must walk through the living room to enter the kitchen, the only disadvantage of the ap. But the bath room and toilet, of course, is reachable from both bed rooms. The interior is in a modern style, more practical, but also with the sense of a private apartment.

During the past ten years a lot of cafés, restaurants and small bars were coming up in our area, the "Graefekiez". So it is only a few steps by feet to get a typical Berlin breakfast, lunch or dinner. Which is - sorry - mostly not German, but Italian, French, Turkey, Thai, Vietnamese or Chinese (and many more foreign countries). But of course, we can give you tips to find a restaurant which provides German Schnitzel. The best true original Italian Restaurant you can find just one bloc from us, next to the "Landwehrkanal"-Channel, with a big beer garden. Their pizza are great, and even Italian guests liked it!
To the Old City of Berlin, called "Mitte" (and also center of former East Berlin), you can get by subway U8 from our station "Schoenleinstr." You need only 5 station - 10 minutes - to Alexanderplatz with the big TV tower, next to former Schlossplatz and the Dom (cathedrale). One station more without change - "Weinmeisterstr." - and you are next to the "Hackesche Hoefe". They are famous since the Wall came down. The ensemble of 13 courts was before only old storage houses, now they are pretty renovated, lively through the whole night, with restaurants, clubs, but also art craft shops, a variété etc. Next to these courts are a lot of design and fashion shops. This former "Scheunenviertel" was also a big pre-war Jewish Community, and in the Oranienburger Strasse you find the big Eastern Synagogue with its golden dome. The Jewish Museum is quite near to our flat in Kreuzberg.
To former West Berlin - Kurfuerstendamm ("Kudamm") with the big department stores, especially "KaDeWe", the symbol of the Half Town - the "Wilhelm-Gedaechtnis-Kirche" with the broken tower, you will get with subway U1. It starts from "Kottbusser Tor", there you can get by feet in 5 min. Without change you will arrive after 15min at Wittenberg Platz, the heart of West Berlin. One station before, at "Nollendorfplatz", you get to Motzstrasse and the heart of the gay community.

You book the guest room as a private so-called "BnB"-offer. So you live together with your hosts in one apartment. The kitchen and the bathroom will be shared. But don't worry, we never had problems because of this situation. Mostly, my friend gets up very early, and me very late - so is enought time for you in-between, usually. You will get the keys to the house and the flat. Within the apartment everything is open; this is our concept of a open-minded guest house. And, besides, the old double-doors don't have keys anyway ... So, openess, kindness and trust is part of our philosophy. - A served breakfast is not included and my be ordered aditionally. We won't force our guests to special breakfast times etc. but we want them to enjoy their stay as free, without any restrictments, as possible. But, of course, you can use everything you find in the kitchen - and this is a lot. Coffee (from the full automatic espresso machine, which provides also cappucino and latte macchiato) and tea, water (we use tab water) and juices, milk are free. There's space for your own belongings in the fridge. We have a lot of super markets and small shops, which are open even on Sundays, next to our house. A bakery is just at the corner of our crossing. So self-service - feeling like home - is no problem. But, to be honest, most of our guests explore one of the lot cafés in the surrounding to enjoy a Berlin-typical outside-breakfast (at sunny days just with tables on the pavement) to still reasonable prices. (Just downstairs in the bar-café "Matilda" they serve a bid Italian breakfast for about 8 euros - you even can share it. Or you walk 15 min to a café in the beautiful Bergmannstrassen-Kiez, to find big brunch buffets with warm and cold meals for 7 Euros at Weekends.)
In the "apartment" (our expression for our rent-out-ap.) however, you are the single guest/s and use your bathroom on your own. The kitchen is fully equipped for self service (breakfast, cooking etc.) and you find enough super markets around.

Besides the rule to our "Open House"-poliy there are no restrictions. You come and go as you like, or you stay the whole day in your honeymoon four-poster bed ... if you want. But then you miss the attractions of the various City of Berlin. – Due to the fact that we have our very people-liking dog, the Golden Retriever "Miss Bootsmann" (that means "boat-man", because it likes water so much, but it's a she) we accept dogs. Our dog likes to play with everyone, and she is even more nice to kids. She never barks or is aggressive. But she is not allowed to go in your room, even if you bring a bet. We don't have many experience with cats, but mostly she is curious to anxious about them... We are both about 40, so our guest are mostly a bit older our younger, or same age - we don't mind. I'm a tolerant non-smoker, my friend smokes (sorry), so it's allowed in the kitchen, not in the bed room, pls (but we don't control :-))

The room is available for 50 Euros per night - independent if one or to persons book it. That means about 70 US-Dollars at the moment, but please look for the actual rate.
There's a discount of 20% from the 4.night, so you pay then only 40 Euros per night.
A 3rd person/children is possible, we provide then a high-rise air matelas then (1.50m wide). That means 10 Euros additional per night. A served breakfast costs 10 Euros per person and day additional; self-service and coffee, tea, juice, water, milk are free.
After request for booking we expect a pre-payment of 25% to complete your booking. Sorry, we can only reservate the room for a few days after your email confirmation. The booking is safe, of course, when we get the money. Sorry, as private persons we can't accept credit cards; but banking transfer from abroad is now easy and cheap with PayPal.
The room is available throughout the whole year; besides high season (March to October) we can recommand marvellous German Winter esp. before and after Christmas (December-January). Explore the shopping city with special Christmas lightning in the streets. Ask for special offers in this time, esp. it you plan a longer stay (more than one week).
Minimum stay is 2 days.

With the booking you get an email with all directions depending to your kind of transport to Berlin. So please answer the question for transportation (flight/train/bus/car)!
We have at the moment still 2 airports in Berlin (Tegel TXL and Schoenefeld SXF). You can get from them to us with a cab/taxi for about 25-30 Euros. Because of the highway system it's only about half an hour then to our house. By public traffic you need about 40min to one hour (mix of bus and metro). Berlin owe a good metro system with U(nderground)bahn and S(tadt or Schnell)bahn. They belong to 2 different companies, but work together (you buy one ticket to use both). Within Berlin you need only a Zone A/B-Ticket for 2,10 Euros (one trip, one direction), only from SXF you need the ABC-Ticket. - Berlin by car is still possible, because we have good big magistral highways, and - for a Capitale - not that much traffic. But, for a tourist, I consider public traffic for the best possibility. And you get quite more Berlin - by experience - than sitting in your car. The parking situation in our Graefestr. is still okay - during the day at least. And you don't pay for it - otherwise in other parts of the city.
If you want to look already how to get to our place, look at bvg.de and type in for example "Schoenefeld airport" to "Schoenleinstr" (our subway station).
