Mayhurst is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and is a Virginia Historic Landmark noted for its historic as well as architectural merit. Mayhurst is also one of the historic properties on the "Journey Through Hallowed Ground" - the Historical Route 15 and Route 20 corridor of that runs from Gettysburg to Monticello.

You may wish to tour all four floors of the mansion complete with a climb to the rooftop cupola where General "Stonewall" Jackson observed his troops and where Civil War Graffiti is scratched into the 150 year old glass.

The Italian Suite - The perfect room for romantic relaxation! Actually it's two rooms. A queen size handmade bed with 8 foot column posts sets the classic tone of this beautiful, luxurious room with shower bath. The adjoining Sitting/Soaking room has a large double whirlpool tub in black granite surrounded by marble, in front of a gas fireplace. You might wish to step out onto your private balcony in our robes or enjoy a private massage in the sitting room or on the balcony.

The Madison Room - Savor this room.....as if you were the master and mistress of the plantation, Col. and Mrs. John Willis. The Madison Room was their master bed room. Their room is designed to honor John Willis' great uncle, President James Madison, and wife, Dolley. The ruby red wall covering was Dolley's choice for their bed drapes. The four poster king size bed is adjacent to the marble fireplace. A vintage claw foot tub with overhead shower and antique marble lavatory grace the bath. This spacious and very romantic room overlooks the pond.

The Magnolia Room - Blooming magnolias as you may see on the 10 very large magnolia trees of Mayhurst cover the walls of this warm and inviting room. Enjoy the wood burning fireplace from the antique French queen size bed. The bath has a shower and an 1890 marble lavatory from Washington's Historic Willard Hotel.

The Southern Charm Room - Romance, luxury and history make this room perfect for the couple looking for a special time together. This was the original Mayhurst Guest Room and General "Stonewall" Jackson was a guest here on August 6, 1862. He would have enjoyed the double whirlpool tub in front of the wood burning fireplace and the king size bed!

The Piedmont Suite - A two room suite divided by the bathroom, which has a shower over the tub. The romantic queen bedchamber with fireplace has a quiet, private location on the third floor. Relax in the sitting room on the wicker daybed, or a big comfy chair with the in-room cable TV and VCR.

The Generals Room - In honor of the three Confederate Civil War generals who have visited, stayed a night or stayed for the winter, Generals Lee, "Stonewall" Jackson, and A.P. Hill respectively, this queen bedded room has 1860 antiques and decor. The gas fireplace is surrounded by the original Italian black marble. Three 10 foot arch top windows shimmer with the original glass. The private attached bathroom has a shower.

The School House - A fully restored 1837 one room school house with fireplace, central air and heat, a full bath, kitchen, and a queen size bed.
Guests can choose to enjoy all the amenities of the Manor House and enjoy the nights in the privacy and warmth of their own "class room" or the kitchen can be stocked for their own use. Virginia Wine or Champagne can be included to make a perfect stay even better.

The Garden Room - This spacious and bright room has a king bed. The large bathroom and shower are lined in green slate. Three deep window seats add to the easy, comfortable feel of this popular room. The entire bathroom is ADA compliant and features a no barrier roll-in shower. .

Evening Wine and Cheese

Children: Well behaved, supervised children are welcome.

Pets: We accommodate pets in the "School House" only. Pets are not allowed in the Manor House. An additional $25 charge per stay is assessed for the special cleaning required. We have two resident cats that reside in the owner's quarters.

Virginia Green Lodging - We believe in protecting our environment. Mayhurst has several "Green" initiatives including: Recycling, use of CFL Bulbs, water conserving bathroom fixtures, use of Energy Star appliances and a number of guest selectable methods to reduce energy and water use. Mayhurst "Green Policies" are listed in our Guest Information Folders in each Guest Room. We encourage our guests to help preserve our environment.

The Generals Guest Room

Breakfast: Enjoy a full, bountiful breakfast of baked breads and muffins, juices, individual fruit plates and rotating entree course. Special diets can be accommodated. Of course there is always plenty of freshly ground gourmet coffee, or teas to your taste. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 10:00 on the patio courtyard, or in front of the fireplace in the dining room. Other times can be accommodated.

Directions from Washington, D.C.:
From the west side and Dulles Airport: 1 1/2 hours driving time

Take I-66 West. (From Dulles take Rt. 28 south to I-66)

Use Exit 43A at Gainesville onto Rt. 29. travel 38 miles.

At the third (3rd) Culpeper exit, "Route 15 Orange", travel south (left turn at end of ramp).
Travel 18 miles on Rt. 15 to and through Orange to the south side.

Turn right into drive one block after median of divided highway begins. There is a large white lighted sign.
From the central, south side and Reagan National Airport: 1 1/2 hours driving time

Take I-95 South to Fredericksburg, approx. 50 miles

Exit #130B "Route 3" West

Travel 15 miles to Wilderness Corner, turn left onto Rt. 20

Travel 20.3 miles into Orange

At the first stoplight, a T-intersection, turn left on Route 15

Travel 7/10 mile to where divided highway median begins

Turn right into our drive and travel 1/4 mile up hill to the Inn

The Inn is not visible from Rt. 15
From Richmond and South: 1 1/2 hours driving time

Take I-64 west to Exit 136 "Orange, Zion Crossroads Rt. 15"

Travel 19 miles north, through the Gordonsville traffic circle and into the south side of Orange.

When center median of the divided highway ends, turn around SAFELY. You will now be traveling south.

Turn right into our drive one block after the median begins again

Look for lighted white sign. The Inn is not visible from Rt. 15.
From I-81 and West:

Take I-64 east to Exit 136 "Orange, Zion Crossroads Rt. 15"

Continue as above
OR if you want the shorter and scenic horse farm route from I-64 west/Charlottesville area: Driving time is 25 mins

Take I-64 east to Exit 124 "Rt 250, Shadwell"

Travel East 2 miles on Rt. 250 to Rt. 22

Take left onto Rt. 22 East at the "Y" intersection near the brow of the hill

Travel 5.3 miles, bear to the left at "Y" onto Rt. 231 North and continue into Gordonsville.

From traffic circle in Gordonsville follow signs to Orange on Rt. 15 north

When center median of the divided highway ends, turn around SAFELY. You will now be traveling south

Turn right into our drive one block after the median begins again.

Look for the lighted white sign. The Inn is not visible from Rt. 15
