Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Lets Go. and a number of European guide-books ALL RECOMMEND 'Als Place Hostel'... why? Because we are a small friendly, laid back sort of place, concerned about customer comfort. We even have a kitchen...make your self a coffee, cook dinner or take a beer from the fridge, a place where travelers can meet and get to know each other. AND also save money on restaurants.
We are also proud of the fact that we are directly involved with a Teacher Training project in rural Cambodia your money spent in a useful way. (see photos)
We opened our doors in 2002 the first hostel in Split and we are still going strong cos we place a high priority on personal friendly service. The owner often gets the guest together and they all go out for a beer or 3.
TWO good sized en-suite dorms run by English speaking staff who have traveled through five continents and maybe just maybe have an understanding of what you're looking for in a hostel. Be aware Croatia is hot in summer, at nights we turn on the Air/con in Hi-season IMPORTANT Reception is manned from 9.30-13.30 and 17.00-21.30. Please phone before booking if you are arriving outside these times.
Couples should be aware we have a 'no romance' policy in the dorms, we are not THE party hostel.
Directions
From Split bus or train station, turn right and walk towards town. When you get to the Palace stop walking along the waterfront turn right and walk up alongside the wall. with the sea behind you. Walk approx 100 Metres and you will see an entrance/gateway on your left. DO NOT enter but keep walking north. Another 100 Metres and you will come to the end of the wall. Turn left and now you will walk the same distance along the 'back' side wall of the Palace. On your left a big statue of what appears to be a wizard, (Grgur Ninski) carry on walking, past a tower on your right. Another 30 M and you walk down four steps. (DO NOT CONTINUE STRAIGHT ONTO TOMISLVA) After these steps you are at the rear entrance of the Old town go through here and IMMEDIATELY on your right (maybe 1 metre) is KRUZICEVA ULICA. Walk along here almost to the end at NUMBER 10 is ALS PLACE HOSTEL Be aware Split is ALWAYS much smaller than people expect. The 'streets' are in fact narrow little alleyways with NO traffic (think Roman). Locals DO NOT use street names and seldom know where anything is or where a street is.
NO SIGNS are allowed on the outside of buildings do not wander around hoping to find a sign for us, think UNESCO protected site.
Beware of impostors there is only one ALS PLACE HOSTEL
