Girdwood Alaska Backpackers Inn

New hostel opened July 2009. Great location in Old Girdwood near the highway and shuttle stop. For $1 ride the shuttle into New Girdwood, to the ski hill at Alyeska Resort, or to any of the restaurants in town. Separate male and female dorms as well as private rooms available.

Since we laid eyes on the existing building, we've set out to make our hostel the most eco-friendly hostel in the world, while maintaining an excellent level of standards for value and comfort.

From the recycled materials shedding snow from our roof, to the salvaged lumber handcrafted into new countertops, to the most energy efficient lighting we could find - we've fashioned a hostel that we hope will set a new standard in sustainability, efficiency, and comfort for hostels around the world.

Visit us in the beautiful Alaskan Summer to hike, bike, kayak, and raft through all that Alaska has to offer. Come see the gold of the midnight sun and the bluest of glaciers, as well as the unique wildlife found only here. Walk less than the length of a football field to a river with great fishing, and find some of the best salmon fishing in the area only a few short miles away.

During the Winter you can join us in appreciating close to a thousand inches of snow through the season at Alaska's largest ski resort, Alyeska. Just up the valley from us in beautiful Moose Meadows there is an abundance of nordic (cross-country) skiing trails just waiting to be explored.

Directions

With Anchorage to the north and Seward to the south, arriving at Girdwood Alaska Backpackers Inn is as simple as enjoying the natural beauty of the Seward Highway until you see the Tesoro gas station at mile marker 90. Turn into the Tesoro Station Mall, and stop at The Ice Cream Shop or Coast Pizza if you need a snack. Continue through the parking area and behind the Tesoro Station Mall, turn right at Gold Ave. Our beautiful red building is located at 365 Gold Ave.
