Typical Day
Day 1 Beijing-Huanghuacheng-Xishuiyu (4 hrs, 7km hiking)
Pick you up at your hotel in Beijing at 11 am and drive to Huanghuacheng (1.5 hrs). You will start the hiking around 13:30, and it will take about 4 hours hiking on the wall. After the hike at Xishuiyu village, you will walk for 20 minutes to the campsite by the lake (reservoir). We will base us under the chestnut orchid by the Great Wall tonight.
Huanghuacheng played an important role to protect the imperial capital and mausoleums in the Ming Dynasty (1368 AD- 1644 AD). In order to defend the capital and imperial tombs, two types of the Wall were built to the north of Beijing, Outer Great Wall & Inner Great Wall. Huanghuacheng is a part of the Inner Great Wall. The first hour is challenging as you will have to walk straight up. You will meander through the jungles and bushes, along with chestnut orchid near the Wall. When you reach the last watchtower near Xishuiyu, you will have a panoramic view of this lakeside (reservoir) Great Wall which is stunning. Coming down by the path and walk through the village and then reach our campsite under the chestnut orchid.

Our dinner will be served at the restaurant by the lake. In summer time you have the option to do a boat trip on the lake.
Meals: dinner
Day 2 Sunrise-Ming Tombs & Sacred Way
Wake up in early morning, walk up to one of the watchtowers and enjoy a beautiful sunrise on the Great Wall. If you still feel energetic, you may walk two more watchtowers and have a look of the other side of the Great Wall. Our simple breakfast will be served at the campsite.

On the way back to Beijing, we will visit the Dingling Mausoleum and Sacred Way. 13 emperors and their concubines of the Ming Dynasty were buried in this area. Some of the tombs are big and magnificent, and some of them are small and shabby. We will step into the underground palace in the Dingling Mausoleum.
A lunch at a local restaurant will be organized after the visit. You will arrive at hotel at 2-3 pm.
