Tea Gardens is Australia's best kept secret. Only 2 hours north of Sydney, Lazy Paddles offers clean, comfortable, friendly dorm accommodation over-looking the beautiful Myall River. The gateway to the Myall Lakes National Park.
Tea Gardens is Australia's best kept secret. This unspoilt, non-commercialised part of Port Stephens is only 2 hours north of Sydney but has managed (so far) to stay hidden from the sights of big business. Lazy Paddles is a small hostel located right on the waterfront. Watch the dolphins swim by while you relax on our verandah. We offer clean, comfortable, friendly dorm accommodation. We have bicycles and sandboards available FREE, kayaks, guided kayak tours and kayak lessons available at heavily discounted rates. Tea Gardens is a destination. It's not a place for stopping overnight. Visitors can spend weeks here exploring the beautiful bays and beaches of Port Stephens , the sand dunes, the Myall Lakes National Park, the Myall River and deserted, golden sandy surf beaches. Here you can find koala, kangaroo and dingo habitat, sub-tropical rainforest, fascinating headlands, unspoiled islands and over 280 different species of birds. Our minimum 2 night stay will give you a small taste of what this place has to offer, but we highly recommend keeping your plans flexible as you will most likely want to stay longer. Please don't let it happen to you: We've had guests leave here angry. Angry because they couldn't stay longer due to pre-booked travel plans, and angry because their guide books didn't tell them how awesome this place is. The best way to get here from Sydney is also the cheapest - catch a train to Newcastle (about $9, a bus to Nelson bay (about $5) then a ferry/dolphin watch right to our door ($10). Please note; last ferry from Nelson Bay departs at 3:30pm. Countrylink bus/train service will bring you right into Tea Gardens. The Greyhound bus also stops at Tea Gardens ("The Rock Roadhouse). Please note that the roadhouse bus stop is actually 10km from the Tea Gardens village (and Lazy Paddles' hostel). We offer a free pick up service for Greyhound bus travellers between the hours of 7am and 9pm. Happy travels :)
Directions
Arrive by ferry from Nelson Bay, alight 100m from our hostel. Or, catch the Greyhound/Premier bus to the 'Rock Roadhouse' in Tea Gardens and a free hostel pick-up service (minimum 2 nights stay) will bring you to our hostel.
