Pousada Rios is located on Ilha Cotijuba just outside Belém and run by a young and friendly Dutch-Brazilian couple that speak English, German, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese.
lha Cotijuba has 15 km deserted freshwater beaches and a rich fauna and flora. A perfect alternative for people wo don´t have the time to visit Marajo island.
The island receives a lot tourist from Belem in the weekends and holidays.
The island has a small medical post with 24 h doctors present for regular problems, for emergencies there is a speed boat that brings you to the city. There is also a police station on the island.
There are no bank or ATM machines on the Island.
It is also not possible to pay with Credit Cards, payments only in cash
There is no internet on the island.
Vivo has the best signal on the island for mobile phone.

Pousada Rios has in total 18 apartments al with bathroom from basic to luxe. We have a beautiful garden with a lot of shade from fruit and palm trees. Here you can enjoy our relaxed atmosphere and taste local or international dishes from our restaurant. During the week it´s really calm. In the weekends there is a lot more activity in the bars at the beach in front of the pousada. You can stroll around on the beaches, go walking in the jungle and mangroves, or go fishing with local fishermen. At the island there is almost no crime so it´s safe for foreigners to explore the island on their own.

We also offer JUNGLETRIPS to an other island close to cotijuba. Here we stay in a small fishing community with about 15 families. You will have a lot of contact with the local people and taste a bit of there daily life, they take us out fishing, catching shrimps, exploring the mangroves etc. It s all under guidance of a of the owner of pousada rios who speaks english, dutch, german and portugues. We stay at a typical fishermenhouse at the riveredge in the mangroves, you sleep in a hammock or on an air matras, meals are included.

Directions

FROM THE LOCAL MARKET VERO PESO IN BELEM GOES DIRECTLY THE BOAT BRAGA II TO COTIJUBA ISLAND.
A beautifull boattrip 1h30min. for just RS 5.00 passing the local islands with there typical houses from the fishermen.

From the CITY OR AIRPORT you can take several buses to the fishing village Icoaraci about 45 minutes. In Icaoraci there go every hour from 07:00 till 18:30 boats to the island about 50 minutes.

When you arraive on ilha cotijuba you can take a motortaxi or the local transport (charret) with the horses to Pousada Rios at the beach praia do farol. It´s the first and most famos beach on the island with the best hotels.
