Activity/Tour

Visitors will travel through eastern Newfoundland. They will see natural and cultural attractions and participate in learning activities, including traditional skills demonstrations.

Typical Day

Day Five of Survival theme

This day’s activities focus on the rum running trade and how it has contributed to economic survival in difficult times.
Locations: Communities on the southern coast of the Burin Peninsula
and St. Pierre

Day Two of the Survival theme
“If you know enough about poverty you totally understand why people cut down trees and set snares.” Jane Goodall
Today’s focus is on traditional skills and their contribution to the survival of coastal settlements in eastern Newfoundland. Locations: Communities in the Placentia West Region of the Burin Peninsula.

This program is suited for most people over the age of 16.

Sleeping and meals

Tour begins in St. John’s, NL. All meals, local transportation, and six nights’ accommodations included in price. As this tour takes you into small rural communities, accommodations will be provided at a combination of local hotels, B&Bs, homestays or cottages. We reserve the right to make changes in response to unexpected circumstances.

Policies & Restrictions

Smoking is not permitted in any public building in Newfoundland and Labrador. Smoking is also not permitted on the tour bus or in most outdoor sites. Visitors should request information about designated areas. Visitors must be over 19 years of age to consume alcohol and again, consumption is permitted only in designated areas.

Themed tours cost between $250 and $300 per night.
