Nomad is one of the largest adventure tour companies in Africa. To date we have carried 42 500 clients (and counting) and travelled more than 16-million kilometers. We have about 120 full time staff (including our guides) and our tours cover 14 countries in Southern and East Africa.

We have 2 main kinds of tours, camping and accommodated. Our camping program offers exceptional value for money adventure and the average age of the traveler is 31y. Of course at various times of the year this can go up or down depending on University Holidays etc. Our Accommodated tours are aimed at a higher age bracket, but can be booked by anyone who wants adventure without the tent!

adventure tours are for people who have a zest for life and a
lust for adventure. If you have an interest in people, places,
animals and adventure, then these tours are for you.
Our groups come from all walks of life, and of various
nationalities. Although there are often couples and groups
of friends together, most travellers are single and the malefemale
mix generally works out about equal.
All tours, besides guaranteed departures, have a minimum of
4 people. Our camping groups average around 18 people,
with a maximum of 24. Our accommodated tours average
around 14 people with a maximum of 18. small group tours
are maximum 12. Single Supplements are limited to 4 per
tour on all tours.
Experience has shown us that our adventure trips are suitable
for the majority of travellers from ages 16 to 65. However, we
do accept people older than 65 years because we believe
age is a state of mind.

What's included, what's not and why?
Let's face it, there is no such thing as an "all-inclusive" tour, there are always extra activities that you can do. We choose to let you make your own decisions. You don't have to spend anything more than the cost of the tour price, the odd meal out, drinks and souvenirs. You choose the rest. Our tours have been specifically designed to offer our travellers choice. You are able to customise our products so that, combined, they match your African dream. Most of our trips fit seamlessly together, enabling you to select your desired highlights and match them up.

Typical Day

Each day in Africa is new and exciting. A portion of the day
is spent travelling from one place to another. The tours can
cover large distances and include plenty of highlights. A
typical day with us starts at sunrise, making the most of every
minute. Lunches are normally informal affairs on the side of
the road or a local picnic spot. Evenings are spent socialising
and relaxing at camp.
Our guides do most of the work, and on a Camping tour
your participation in camp chores is limited to taking turns to
assist with washing-up duties, putting up and taking down
your tent and loading your bags. We include a camp assistant
on most tours.
Vegetarians are easily catered for and are always impressed
by our varied menu. Our guides can produce miracles on
a camp stove. Special dietary requirements can be met by
special request.
Once you have booked with Nomad we will send you a Tour
Dossier and a detailed Pre-Departure Information document.

Age range, type of group

Who will you travel with?

Our groups average around 18 people from all walks of life and of various nationalities. Although there are often couples and groups of friends together, most travellers are single and the male-female mix generally works out about even.

The nature of an adventure tour tends to attract a certain age group, and experience has shown us that our adventure trips are unsuitable for the majority of travellers outside the 16 to 55 age bracket. However, we do accept people older than 55 years because age is a state of mind.

Sleeping and meals

Camping Tour:
On our Camping tours you will be staying in large, 2-man canvas tents (with a built in mosquito net). You will put them up and take them down
and because of the design of the tents this is a very easy task that you will quickly master. Everyone receives a camp mattress for the duration
of the tour. All you need to provide is your own sleeping bag and towel.
Single supplements are available on Camping tours. This means that you do not share a tent (the guides will assist you with putting it up and taking it down)
and when we stay in other accommodation you will have a single room.

Accommodated Tours:
Our Accommodated tours combine all of the outdoors and adventure that the camping trips bring, with the main difference being that you sleep
in a bed rather than a tent. All you need to bring is your own towel. This accommodation varies from place to place, making use of hotels, hostels,
lodge style bungalows, chalets, permanent tented safari camps and traditional huts. If you are booking one of our Accommodated Tours alone
you are required to pay the single supplement.

Other Information

What is the Activity Package (AP)
for?
This is an optional additional payment that covers what we
consider to be essential activities on our tours. Ideally, we
would include all of these but not everyone can afford this.
This payment is 100% transparent and is listed with the itinerary
of the tour. If you cannot afford it, or do not want to do the AP,
rest assured that your tour will remain uninterrupted and meals
and the services of the guides will continue. All the itineraries are written with the Activity Packages included.

Foreign Language Tours
Nomad has always been the premier foreign language tour
operator. All our scheduled tours are conducted in English but
on selected departures we offer a German (G) or Spanish (SP)
speaking crew member to act as translator.
