Active Adventure

Leaders of Iditarod Trail air tour packages since 1994, Sky Trekking Alaska pilot/guides use ski planes to fly small groups of guests over and along the Iditarod trail, going from checkpoint-to-checkpoint, observing the race up close and as it happens. View the individual itineraries to get an idea of the many checkpoints we will visit.

These Treks are expeditions in the classic sense. The focus and pace is upon the sled dog race, but the overall experience gives a person a rich and detailed look at Alaska and its people.

Typical Day

On an Iditarod Sky Trek you will have the opportunity to participate in numerous activities, including hands-on experience handling and mushing a dog team, driving a snowmobile, and snowshoeing. You will meet the interesting residents of rural Alaska including Eskimo village residents and artisans while witnessing a vanishing way of life. Daily flight seeing is a matter of course, and the Expedition and Start and Middle Treks include a grand tour around the highest peak in North America, Mount McKinley.

Age range, type of group

While other Sky Treks are designed for the participation of private groups, the Iditarod Sky Treks are designed for the participation of mixed groups within small, guided parties.

All Ages, families, couples, singles, youth and seniors.

Sleeping and meals

Best available Lodges, B&B's, Inn's and Hotels located in Wasilla, Big Lake, Talkeetna, McGrath, Galena, Unalakleet and Nome.

Double occupancy rooms are not usually available in Bush comunities. Bed space is at a premium in these places.

Single room upgrades may available in Wasilla, Big Lake, Talkeetna, and Nome

Policies & Restrictions

Weight restrictions may apply. Middle, Winner's and Expedition Treks baggage limited to 40 pounds per person and a custom gear bag and backpack are included.

Rates & Availability

Day Trips start at $475 per person for half day guided fly outs with activities, and multi day all inclusive tour packages start around $1185.00 per person per day.
