The hostel is located just a few minutes from the famous Clock-Tower and many amenities such as banks, internet cafes and international calling centers. You can also find some great local markets selling everything from fresh fruit and fish, to beautiful wooden carvings and amazing East African paintings! Arusha is very popular among tourists because of its close proximity to Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa's tallest mountain) and Tanzania's most famous national parks, the perfect destination for a safari! And it is a comfortable place to live with many of the conveniences of home, while still allowing travelers to experience the African way of life.

BaseCamp Tanzania in Arusha is set up with a number of dormitory style rooms and it has a large covered balcony on the main floor with a spectacular view! There is also a large common room on the lower level with a small resource center containing books, magazines, movies, games and other African publications. The private location provides the ideal setting to catch up on email, review some Swahili, or just enjoy a quiet afternoon. Wireless internet access is available throughout the house, making it easy to stay in touch with friends and family back home.

BaseCamp Arusha has a full time kitchen that can provide three meals per day. The Hostel menu consists of local dishes, and can be modified to make accommodations for any allergy or food restrictions (with advance notice). In addition to the delicious meals prepared and eaten at BaseCamp, you can also arrange to have a packed lunch provided, to take with you on that days excursion.

The meal plan can be purchased in any combination, from a single meal to a complete meal plan. You can make your meal plan arrangements in advance at the time you book your accommodation, or you can plan to wait until your arrival to join the meal plan. The meal plan is posted weekly so you always know what is for breakfast lunch and dinner. If you are staying at the BaseCamp hostel and you did not select a meal plan, you can always choose to join in on any meal, provided you give the kitchen enough notice (four to six hours is requested).

BaseCamp hostel is the center of an international volunteer abroad program where guest can find a cultural atmosphere and can learn the local language for traveling around the country. Also, our guest can receive assistance with airport transfers, orientation on the arrival and tour packages.

With our mix of guests, local friends and staff, BaseCamp Tanzania has an atmosphere that is more like a homestay than a hostel. Guests are always welcome to join any of the activities or events hosted by BaseCamp, and we pride ourselves on our community based environment that is open and friendly.

Directions

General Directions:
If walking or in a taxi head west from town on Nelson Mandela Road (also known as Old Moshi Road) past the Impala roundabout and into Kijenge (pronounced kee-jen-geh). At the Mount Meru Petrol Station turn left onto a dirt road and keep to the left. Continue up the hill and past the first gate, arriving at BaseCamp Tanzania's blue gate on the right.

Public Transportation:
If taking public transportation (daladala) be sure to board one with a red stripe reading "Moshono". disembark the daladala at the Mount Meru Petrol Station, cross the road and head to the left and up the hill, finishing at BaseCamp Tanzania's blue gate on the right.

Airport Arrival:
From the JRO Kilimanjaro International airport you can expect taxis will take 45 minutes to an hour to reach BaseCamp Tanzania, from the Arusha Airport taxis will take 20-30 minutes.
