    Surrounding Area

    Yosemite National Park

Between our front door and Yosemite's gates, experience world-class river rafting on the Wild and Scenic Tuolumne River, hike and bike hundreds of miles of trails in the Stanislaus National Forest, cast a line in a multitude of rivers and streams, sled with some silly friends, cross-country ski and snow-shoe.

Bird watching and wildlife spotting is a local pastime. We boast great gray owl and black bear habitat and a whole lot of other wildlife.

Visit our local wildlife experts at Mountain Sage for an insider’s scoop.

More activities such as horseback riding, golfing and tennis are a stone’s throw away at Pine Mountain Lake.

Cultural adventures not to be missed include the Strawberry Music Festival held yearly on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, wine tasting in Murphys, antique shoppingin Jamestown and Sonora and attending year-round theatre productions in Sonora.

Stop in for directions and stay for the experience.

    Directions

    DRIVING DIRECTIONS

All public roads into Yosemite Valley are open year-round. Tioga Pass Road (Hwy 120 East between Crane Flat & Hwy 395 near Mono Lake) typically closes from mid-October to late May, although those dates vary.

Although Groveland occasionally receives trace amounts of snow, points east can experience heavy snowfalls. It is advisable to carry chains in your vehicle.

We offer free parking behind our hotel.

    DIRECTIONS FROM THE WEST

From San Francisco and the Bay Area

Head east on Interstate 580 through Livermore. Near Tracy, merge on to I-205 East. Stay on I-205 until I-5 North, following the signs for Yosemite. Take I-5 North for a very short distance. Take the first exit, Hwy 120 East toward Yosemite. Remain on Hwy 120 East through Manteca, Escalon and Oakdale. Following the signs to Yosemite's Northern Entrance, turn RIGHT at Yosemite Junction and pass through Chinese Camp, up the unforgettable Priest Grade and through Big Oak Flat. Groveland is just after Big Oak Flat, and the Groveland Hotel can be found on the right-hand side of the road, just past the Iron Door Saloon.

    DIRECTIONS FROM THE NORTH

    From Sacramento

Take Hwy 99 South to Manteca . Exit onto Hwy 120 East in Manteca and follow signs to Yosemite . Remain on Hwy 120 East through Manteca, Escalon and Oakdale. Following signs to Yosemite's Northern Entrance, turn RIGHT at Yosemite Junction and pass through Chinese Camp, up the unforgettable Priest Grade and through Big Oak Flat. Groveland is just after Big Oak Flat, and the Groveland Hotel can be found on the right-hand side of the road, just past the Iron Door Saloon.

    DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH

The most direct route is to take Hwy 99 north to 120 east in Manteca and follow the signs to Yosemite (see above). Another option is to take Hwy 99 to Fresno, and then take Hwy 41 through Yosemite Valley for a more scenic drive. Please do not take Hwy 49 from the south! Most GPS programs tell you to take this extremely winding mountain road that connects Mariposa with Sonora, but if you do, you will be sorry (and probably car sick)!

    DIRECTIONS FROM THE EAST

    From Yosemite Valley

Follow the signs to San Francisco as you leave the park on Hwy 120. Groveland is 23 miles from Yosemite's Big Oak Flat entrance/exit. The Groveland Hotel can be found on the left-hand side of the road. Turn left onto Back Street just prior to the Iron Door Saloon.

From Mono Lake and Eastern Sierra

Follow Hwy 120 West. This spectacular route climbs Tioga Pass at 9941 feet, and winds past Tenaya Lake, spectacular granite formations with some of the world's finest sport climbing routes and unforgettable views of Half Dome from the Olmsted Point turnout. At Crane Flat, turn Right/West, following the signs to San Francisco. There is a service station at this intersection. Groveland is 23 miles from the Big Oak Flat entrance/exit.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This season route is usually open from Memorial Day weekend through October.

    BY AIR

We offer free shuttle service to/from the Pine Mountain Lake Airport, simply give us a call.

    Discounts Offered

Visit our website for specials and packages. In the winter season, (October 15 - April 15) we offer a discount to AAA members.

    Groveland Hotel (View My Profile)
    Brief History

“Originally an adobe trading post built in 1849, the Groveland Hotel has had many incarnations over it’s 161 years – Gambling House, Saloon, Hotel, Ranger Station, business offices, and even a Greyhound Bus Stop. It was known as “the best house on the hill” during the Gold Rush, and the hotel may be the only Sierra Nevada Mountain building constructed in the Monterey Colonial architectural style popular during the late 1840’s and 1850’s.

The building, it’s interior stripped, sat dormant for many years, gathering dust, rainwater then only hosting feral cats in one of the original adobe walls. Under foreclosure and possible complete disintegration, it was rescued and revitalized by Peggy and Grover Mosley in 1990. They spent 2 years completing a million dollar restoration of the property with the adjacent 1914 Queen Anne Victorian building. Now the only cat at this AAA 3 Diamond Hotel is Lola, the sweet cat who will follow you until you pay him a well deserved petting of acknowledgement. You are now officially a guest in his hotel.”

*This landmark Yosemite hotel, restaurant and saloon are fully restored to retain the 19th-century character with modern upgrades including WiFi access throughout the property.
