BARRACO #55 is a cultural incubator and hostel at the same time in Complexo do Alemão, one of the biggest favelas (slum)of Rio de Janeiro.
It’s a house where travelling artists and culturally interested people can exchange culture and knowledge with locals in order to get to know the local reality and learn from one another.
Our rooms are very simple, but comfortable, with shared bathrooms.
Attention: Note that Barraco #55 is located about 40 minutes from the city center and the beach. The area has only been \'pacified\' since short and the situation between police and locals is sometimes still a bit tense. To avoid any problems, we therefore ask our visitors to act respectfully and open mindlessly to the people of the community.
If you have to cancel your booking, you must do it at least 48hrs before arrival.

If you book between December 15th and March 15th you will be charged 50% in advance in order to secure your booking (non refundable), you may be contacted by the property requesting the CVV code of the credit card used for this booking or asked for a deposit.
This also applies if your booking is during a national holiday, New Year´s eve or Carnival.
Public Transport from the Airport:
Barraco #55 relatively close to the airport and by bus it will generally take about 20 mins. Take the ônibus 915, or 'combi' to Bonsuceso and from there you can take the Teleferico (Cable Car) up to the station of 'Itararé'. When you get out, take the road on your most left hand side (Rua and walk about 5 minutes until you see a small square on your left hand side, there you take the alley on your right and you will see a door with '19 Fundos' on your left. You have arrived.
From the city centre:
Take the metro to 'Inhaúma', from there transfer to a 'combi' going to Alvorada and ask them to drop you off at the 'Igreja da Assembleia'. From there, continue the road of the combi for some metres and turn left in the next alley. Afer 20 metres you will see a door with '19 Fundos' on your left. You have arrived.
