Cape Breton Island has inspired musicians, artists, and inventors since it was first settled by Europeans centuries ago. You are likely to feel similarly inspired, as you follow these spectacular trails along coastlines, through valleys, and to viewpoints with the ability to make you breathe deeply and appreciate the magnitude of the beauty in such special places. Starting in Baddeck, where Alexander Graham Bell chose to settle for it's simple beauty, you will start with a walk to a delightful waterfall, and visit the museum to learn about Bell's astonishing discoveries. You will then follow the coast to Cape Breton Highlands National Park, to enjoy the best trails of this profoundly stirring area, where coastal hills meet the sea on both East and West coasts. We may be able to finish with a day around Mabou, a quiet village that at first glance belies the abundance of musical talent enjoyed there. You can visit the only single malt distillery outside Scotland, before a fantastic hike on your last day, along the path cut into the side of the coastal hills at Sight Point. This is a full week of Cape Breton magic, but we guarantee you will leave wanting more!

This is a blue square tour. Blue squares denote our mid-level tours. This type of tour requires moderate fitness levels. They cover terrain with hills and valleys, and tend to include 3-6 hours of walking per day. Most Freewheeling Adventures fall into this category, and are suitable for most ability levels.

Typical Daykeyboard_double_arrow_up
If you want to travel with van support and cheerful, caring guides, and have most of your meals included, a guided trip is the best choice for you. Your luggage is carried for you, and the guide(s) will frequently offer you snacks and drinks. The groups usually congregate for picnic lunches and special affairs, but otherwise are welcome to spread out along the route during the day, each hiker choosing his or her own pace. Because you will be sharing your holiday with other adventurers likely to have a few things in common with you, your evening dinners become enriched by shared stories and entertainment, and you may make friends who will share your future adventure plans.

All adventure prices are per person, and based on double occupancy. Single occupancy charges reflect the cost of having a room by yourself. If you prefer to share or to avoid the extra cost, and are joining an advertised departure, give us as much notice as you can, and we will do our best to match you with a roommate of the same gender. If you reserve at least 120 days in advance, and are willing to share a room, we will waive the charge even if we are unable to match you with a room-mate. From 120 to 60 days ahead, the charge will be reduced by 50%. Within 60 days, the single occupancy charge must apply until we are able to match you up. Any charge will be refunded if we are later able to match you up with a room-mate. Please note that where suitable shared occupancy is not available, a pro-rated single occupancy charge will apply. Please also note that private groups are not eligible for single occupancy exemption.
