Hostel Suomenlinna is a smaller-sized youth centre and youth education camp facility located on an important cultural landmark off the coast of Helsinki. Named as a Unesco World Heritage Site, the island of Suomenlinna is a maritime fortress dating back to 1750. Centre activities reflect the peaceful lifestyle of the island's inhabitants and call to mind the colourful history, beautiful maritime milieu and unique natural setting of the environment. The Finnish Youth Centre Association has been in charge of the administration of Hostel Suomenlinna since 2008.
Hostel Suomenlinna resides in a restored school building built for Russian children in 1908. After Finland became independent in 1917, the building housed Finnish defence forces. After this, the house was used as a school house for a second time, but in 1960 the students and teachers moved to a new building and the defence forces worked in the building once again. The building returned to serving educational purposes in 2002
Hostel Suomenlinna is located in unique, historical surroundings. It takes only a 15 min ferry trip from the city center and Market Square (Kauppatori).
