From Porto to the Douro slopes you’ll take train journeys who lead you to amazing vineyard terraces scenery, today UNESCO heritage Site. While hiking thru the vineyards, you’ll have the chance to taste some of these wines, world class wine!!!

Return in a cruise descending to the river mouth at Porto and, finish the trip at the famous cellars of the port Wine.

- 8 days, 7 nights, 4 days hiking, 1 day River Cruise
- 1 day train trip to Douro
- 12/15km hiking per day

Typical Day

Program and Lodging:

Day 1: Arrival ' Welcome at PORTO airport*
15min drive to Porto City and briefing at lodging. Lodging in nice 3* Hotel, Hotel Malaposta. * Possible from Lisbon airport by car or train to Porto

Day 2: Train Journey to Pinhão.
Depending on the train schedule choose by you, the morning is for discovering Porto city. The old town and its granitic houses and narrow streets are ideal for a stroll. The old pear and its surroundings from the 14th the old ramparts and the Sé Cathedral from the 12-13th and it’s the magnificent view of the Douro and old town Porto.
Once in the train, this will take you into a journey who leads you to the vineyards, from the Douro mouth on the Atlantic to the narrow valley slopes of the Wine region of the Douro. Here the slopes are monumental and the wine culture is in every moment present.
The day stop’s at Pinhão where you rest at a Quinta, an old wine farm which awaits you with a welcome drink. Porto wine off course!!!

Day 3: Hike from Pinhão to Sabrosa Town ' (13km, +400m)
From the doorstep till Sabrosa, you’ll cross the wine country of Douro. The hilly slopes are a challenge both for the winners and the hikers. The village of Provosende and its old manor houses will be a pleasant stop both for its stunning views over the hills and the river, as for a little rest. A Small “tacsa” (tavern) have an interesting exhibition to have a look. Crossing the plateau, the vineyard scenery is superb, small villages and old ways take you to Sabrosa. Home of one of the most know navigator from the 16th, Ferdinand Magellan, his house is still here at Sabrosa.

Day 4: Hike from Sabrosa to Alijó (13km, +510 m)
Starting the day crossing the vineyards down the slopes to meet the river Pinhão where an old bridge awaits for you. Scenery of olive trees and vines on terraces give you a sensation of the rude life and labor. In the way of Favaios village you’ll pass a farm, Quinta do Portal, a place that earn medals in international wine contest.
In favaios the small village is known for its famous wine, the “favaios” and for its old bakeries, which still use wood ovens, and dates from late 19th. Not far is Alijó, from Favaios.

Day 5: Hike from Alijó to Vale Mandiz (16,5km, +320m).
The day start in the hill over Alijó and Favaios, there is a iron settlement, from the 1st BC, and then back to entering into Favaios to cross the famous vineyards of favaios wine. A stop at Quinta de Avessada to taste this wine and others are a must, a good way of taking a rest. Following some very old ways between the farmland, you’ll get to a wonderful viewpoint, wine terraces over the river Pinhão and small villages hanging from the slopes are a stunning view. Vale Mendiz is waiting for you and is one of the villages hanging just a little up from the river Pinhão.

Day 6: Hike from Vale Mendiz back to Pinhão ' (8km, +200m).
A small hiking day who will take you to stunning views over the Douro river and beyond that, to the south, east and west, this scenery of vineyards and mountains carved by rivers and men are marvelous. That is the UNESCO world heritage site!
Back to Pinhão in early afternoon right in time to a boat trip, some two hours of lazy navigations to discover other places along the shores of the Douro.

Day 7: River Douro Cruise.
A small transfer to Regua in the morning train, and this day is a fantastic “fare niente” day, cruising the river back to Porto and the Atlantic Ocean. Cross some stunning locks 14 and 35m of descent at the dams. Appetizer and lunch served on board while observing the views.
Once at Vila nova the Gaia pear, enter a wine cellar just across the pear.

Day 8: Transfer to Airport and Farewell.
