Awesome Kili experience!

Vanessa -- May 27, 2014 12:13 pm
My husband, brother and I did the trek up Kilimanjaro last December. We had a great time! Kilimanjaro has such diverse ecosystems at every stage of the mountain, so bring many layers of clothes. I was amazed by the number of different trees and plants you will never see anywhere else. Day-to-day climbing was fun with snacks and tasty meals provided in between. The cabins were surprisingly comfortable with mattresses and bunkbeds. We had all types of weather, so I was glad I brought waterproof bo ... more

Typical Day

How you do it, what you want to see, how long you stay and in what style are all questions for discussion. Most people tend to either go north or south, although there are options to fly from Arusha into Ruaha, and so you can enjoy the best of both!

Bush 2 City Adventure can take many forms, and these depend on your interests and inclinations. We specialist in providing you with the finest safari experiences, in absolute comfort and style, whatever style or type of accommodation you wish to incorporate into your itinerary.

All of our safaris are expertly guided and we guarantee that even the most knowledgeable among you will learn a thing or two along the way. Days are spent witnessing the wonders of the wild together, an educational and deeply bonding experience which is as rewarding for the young as for the old. Safaris in Tanzania make for stunning personal and private honeymoons, as well as the most treasured family holidays. A true treat for animal lovers, bird-watchers, nature lovers and anyone who appreciates a little luxurious pampering!

For many people, a safari should include some nights under canvas, and this can be interpreted and arranged in a myriad of different ways. In Tanzania, you can take a private, mobile camping safari - as rustic or as luxurious as you would like - or you may prefer the benefits of a semi-permanent camp, which is set up each season according to the movement of animals across the plains.

Nights may also be spent under canvas in a luxurious or basic permanent camp, in voluminous safari tents with their own built-in bathrooms. Many of the best permanent lodges will house you in great comfort for the duration of your stay, but also organize fly-camping excursions to allow you a night or two alone in the wild under an endless star-studded sky.

what you want to see, how long you stay and in what style all are guaranteed by Bush 2 City Adventure "the Great Adventure Masterpiece"

Sleeping and meals

Bush 2 City Adventure - a guide to safari accommodation
Accommodation choices range dramatically in style and attitude; with many almost as worthwhile and interesting as the wildlife around them! This applies across the board to mobile, tented, thatched or hotel, depending on location, management and style of the best places.

Mobile Fly Camp: A private, mobile camp, packed up and pitched on a fresh patch of wild park each day. Tents are usually small and fairly basic.

Semi-permanent tented lodge: A camp constructed with large, luxurious, semi-permanent tents; you will not witness their 'mobility'! The camp is prepared before the arrival of guests, and will not move during your stay. The benefit of the semi-permanent camps is that they pitch according to the seasonal position of the migrating herds, and set you right at the heart of the action. Not necessarily private to your group.

Tented Camp/ Lodge: A tented lodge or camp is a permanent structure, in which accommodation is under canvas. Most have solid, wooden floors, proper bathrooms, running water and will include a fully solid structure bar and restaurant area.

Lodge: The term ‘lodge’ is generally used for a smaller, often owner-run accommodation, as distinct from a large hotel. The lodges that we recommend are tend to be beautifully appointed and run, usually have swimming pools and almost all have their own resident vehicles, trackers and guides.

Hotels: The safari hotels tend to be much larger, and less personal and intimate versions of lodges. They tend not to have their own safari vehicles, although, as usual, there are exceptions!

Policies & Restrictions

Children on Safari
For safety reasons, we do not recommend bringing children less than 4 years of age on safari. Most of the lodges and permanent campsites inside the national parks have a minimum age of 4 years and some up to 7 years of age, depending on their location.

Travel insurance?

Bush 2 City Adventure, its agents, operators, suppliers and its associates cannot be held responsible or liable for loss, damage, or theft of personal luggage and belongings, nor can they be held liable for personal injury, accident or illness. Please ensure that you have yourself and your belongings adequately insured before you depart for your safari. Insurance is compulsory for all our trips.

Health Requirements

What vaccinations do I require?

At present the only vaccination that is required for entry into Tanzania is yellow fever and it must be presented on arrival at the airport in Tanzania. However, it is always sensible before travelling to any new destination to consult your local physician to discuss what precautions you need to take to ensure that you have an enjoyable and safe holiday. Muddy Dusty Trail`s recommends that you speak to your local physician or travel doctor specialist to ensure that you have the correct protection for your trip to Africa

Do I need malaria prophylactics?

Malaria is endemic in Tanzania. Muddy Dusty Trail`s recommends that you consult your local physician or travel doctor specialist before travelling. There are many malaria prophylactics available on the market, your family doctor can discuss the one that is most suitable for your needs.

How Do I Book A Safari?

How far ahead do I need to book my safari?

There is no cutoff, but it is highly recommended you make arrangements for your safari as early as possible. Peak seasons book up as far as nine months ahead of time, though we will always try and accommodate your requests should you book closer to the date. It may be necessary to be more flexible with your itinerary and accommodation choices when looking to book for peak season as accommodation can be scarce. Outside of peak seasons, you should have no trouble booking if you schedule your safari at least three to four months in advance

How does our pricing work?

Our trips use tiered pricing based on logistics. Getting people into remote areas where the best game viewing exists is more costly when there are only two people in the Land Rover, rather than four of five.
Economies of scale result in lower pricing for four or five people traveling together as opposed to pricing for a couple travelling alone. As well, the logistics of moving gear around for a walking safari with numerous bush camps is more complicated and costly than a trip that involves simply staying at a lodge.

Factors that affect pricing:
• The number of people traveling in a group
• Mode of transportation
• Choice of accommodation " i.e.mobile tented camp, lodge, tent, permanent tented camp
• Location remoteness
• Activity choices whilst on safari.

Please note that safari itineraries on this website can be varied to suit your needs. Let Muddy Dusty Trail`s know what your budget is and we will do our best to design a trip that gives you the experiences you want within the budget you require.

How do I book a safari?

You can book a suggested itinerary. These trips take the hard work out of planning your safari. They also offer the convenience of a pre-set itinerary and a fixed price, with flexible scheduling. Travel dates are up to you.

Unlike other safari companies Bush 2 City Adventure only organize private safaris. That means that only you and your travel partner(s) will be on the tour and under no circumstances will you be bundled in with strangers. This gives you flexibility with the game drive as well and possibly eliminates fighting with strangers about where to go and what animals you prefer to look for.

How Much Do I Pay?

Is there an additional charge for solo travelers on African safaris?
All safari prices are quoted based on double occupancy. Solo travelers who want their own room pay per person price plus the single supplement fee. A single supplement fee is a fee imposed by hotels, lodges and camps on individuals travelling alone who want private accommodation.

How much do I tip?

Our general recommendation is to tip moderately " in accordance with the level and quality of service provided. The following guidelines are generally accepted practice (per person): Safari guides(s) " US $ per day, Cook " US $ per day, Camp staff " US $ per day, as a pooled tip to be shared among the housekeeper, waiters, bartender, etc.

For porters and waiters at hotels and for taxi drivers in cities, the customary tip is approximately US $. (Tipping in US $ bills for porters and waiters is greatly appreciated).

What currencies are acceptable?

The unit of local currency is the Tanzania Shilling (TZS). American dollars in cash or travelers cheques are acceptable in many places around town (note: AMEX Traveler cheques are often not accepted). Credit cards are accepted only in big hotels, and if you do manage to find a place to use them there will usually be a surcharge of at least 10%. Please note not to bring old US $ currency, as they are not accepted here!

How much money should I bring on safari? Cash, credit Cards, eftpos or travellers cheques?

You will need very little spending money on most safaris as the majority of meals and activities are included in your package cost. You will need to pay for lunch, dinner, and drinks when you are staying at hotels on a bed and breakfast basis as is the case at most lodges and hotels in cities. Bills may be settled by $USD cash, by travellers cheque, or by credit card (accepted at most lodges, camps, hotels). Ensure all your dollars are of year 2,000 and above series and not of 1990’s. The dollars of 1990’s are often rejected in banks and bureaus; this is due to a large number of counterfeit notes in circulation worldwide of the 1990’s series.

Credit cards may be used in large towns, at restaurants and shops with MasterCard and Visa being most accepted. However, use may be restricted in small towns and country areas and non-existent in small retail shops.

Automatic teller machines (ATM’s) are situated outside the Airport upon arrival and also outside the shopping malls in towns and cities in East Africa and international credit cards can often be used to withdraw currency. However, as Africa is unpredictable please do not rely on ATM machines for your currency needs

Religion & Cultural Etiquette

What are the religions that I should be aware of in Tanzania?
Tanzania’s culture is a mix of African, Arab, European and Indian influences. There are 120 African tribal groups, and the largest group is of Bantu origin. The main religions are Islam, Christian and indigenous beliefs. The island of Zanzibar is predominantly Muslim. Please be mindful that you are travelling to a different country with strong religious customs so it is advisable to dress appropriately, especially in city areas or areas away from tourist areas

Visa & Entry Requirements
Passport requirements
All safari guests must carry a passport that is valid for six months beyond the length of stay. Please ensure that you scan copies of your passport and email it to yourself so you have access to it in the event that you misplace or lose your passport.

Visas & entry requirements

Visas are required by most visitors to Tanzania. Visas can be arranged prior to your travel to Tanzania through your local Tanzanian Embassy, though it is just as easy to acquire the visas on entry into the country at the airport if travelling by plane or at the border crossing if travelling by land. The costs of visas vary from country to country though they are valid for 3 months. Payment for visas on entry into Tanzania is in US dollars only.

Immigration & Customs
Evidence of an onward ticket out of Tanzania is required when entering Tanzania.

Which Airlines Fly To East Africa?

Which airlines fly to East Africa?
Many of the major World airlines fly to East Africa. These include
• South African Airways
• British Airways

• Emirates
• Kenya Airways
• Swiss Air
• Ethiopian Air

Nairobi’s International Airport acts as a hub for the East Africa region. When Is the Best Time to Travel?

When is the best time to travel to East Africa?

You will hear varying ideas about the timing of your trip, but keep in mind that people travel year round to all the destinations on this website. Each season has its advantages, so if you have fixed dates for travel, chances are you will be able to have a great trip no matter where you are going. It is important to understand the seasonal trends and how they will affect your trip; but remember that weather is variable and so it is quite possible to go for days without rain during the peak of the rainy season, or have thundershowers in the middle of the dry season.

The drier seasons are generally considered preferable for game viewing. Dry weather offers more reliable road conditions and in the winter months, milder daytime temperatures. Dry spells force game to congregate around the limited water sources, and sparser foliage makes the animals somewhat easier to find and see. While these are prime game viewing conditions, bear in mind that naturally, all properties enjoy their highest occupancy, and game reserves and parks endure more traffic, during these dry seasons. When considering smaller, more intimate, safari camps and lodges, it is necessary to book well in advance, particularly for travel from June through October

Climate in east and central Africa?

The long rains are from early April through May and the short rains are from late November through to December. It is often less expensive to travel during these rainy seasons. Dry seasons offer excellent visibility and more reliable road conditions, and game tends to congregate around the limited water sources, making the animals easier to find. July and August are generally extremely busy in East Africa, offering comfortable temperatures in addition to being a popular time for travel worldwide, so be sure to book well in advance. December sees increased local tourism, so expect holiday surcharges and limited availability. In the Masai Mara and Serengeti, the movements of the migrating wildebeest contribute to the desirability of certain areas at certain times, and this might influence your itinerary, selections or costs.

What weather variations can I expect?

Most of East Africa is savannah with altitude ranging from 1,000 to 2,500 meters. (Obviously Kilimanjaro & Meru climbers will experience much higher altitudes.)
Temperatures during the day range from 75 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Nights are cool with temperatures dipping as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas (Ngorongoro Crater, for example). Even though you will be travelling near the equator, please ensure you take along a light jacket or sweatshirt, sweater, and a fleece pullover. Additionally, bring something warm to sleep in at night. Humidity is low. If you don’t travel near the rainy season, it usually doesn’t rain
