2 DAY COLUMBIA GORGE TOUR

Pedal at your own pace on this self-guided, two day ride, perfect for adventurers of all ages. This 51 mile ride takes you along sweeping vistas, pounding waterfalls, hand-hewn tunnels and the hushed green forest of the Historic Columbia River Highway. NOTE: 2017 forest fire has temporarily closed some roadways, trails & falls.

Day 1
Meet at our shop with your overnight bag where you'll be fitted for a bike, helmet, pannier and lock. Then we load you, your bike and gear into a Tours van and drive you 30 minutes to the start of the Historic Columbia River Highway (HCRH), completed in 1921 (the country's first? A scenic treasure?). You'll spend the first day riding 37 miles past at least 6 waterfalls along the mild grade (maximum 5%). Feel free to stop at any of the falls and explore the miles of trails that interconnect them, relax at the majestic Multnomah Falls lodge for lunch, or pause for a beer at a brewery in Cascade Locks. We'll pick you up at the end of your day at Wyeth Campground then drive you to the Hampton Inn, your overnight base in Hood River. From there you can take a dip in the pool, a soak in the hot tub, and explore the cute town of Hood River with it's fine breweries like Full Sail, Double Mountain and Pfriem.

Day 2
After filling up at the complimentary breakfast buffet, leave your bags at the front desk and ride the completely car-free HCRH to the Mosier Twin Tunnels, with their rock windows overlooking the grand, mile wide Columbia River. (Be sure to look for the inscription left by snowbound travelers in 1921.) Pass through the tiny cherry-town of Mosier and continue on through the cherry orchards to the stunning Rowena overlook, high above the river. After leaning into the often roaring winds at the overlook, whoosh downhill on the winding Rowena loops and cruise the last few miles into the Dalles, where pioneers on the Oregon Trail had to make a dangerous decision - brave the deadly rapids of the river or climb the perilous cliffs of mount Hood. A victory pint awaits you at Clocktower Ales inside the old county courthouse. The Pedal van will pick up your bags at the hotel and meet you at Clocktower where you can freshen up for the drive back to Portland, full of tales, food and drink.
