Learn Spanish & Volunteer in Amazonas - Colombia A wonderful experience in a cute djungle town Jul 15, 2010 06:35 am For you who are thinking about travelling to Colombia, consider visit Leticia and the Amazon region. Leticia is easy to get around and it is a very calm and safe city.
I studied Spanish at a Spanish Language School, The Amazon Spanish College, and had a great time in Leticia. Leticia is really a good place to study Spanish and I made many new friends both in other international students and locals.
The teachers were excellent and the social and cultural activities were much more than I expected. Here you really get to know people and their diverse cultures.
The unique setting of the city, right in the border between Colombia, Brazil and Peru on the amazon river makes Leticia a excellent point for adventures along the Amazon river and rainforest. The school is centrally located in town only a 5 minute walk to the river.
Year round, there's lots of wildlife to be seen in the Amazon region, including monkeys, ocelots and dolphins, and array of birdlife and there are also indigenous villages that can be visited. You might also go fishing or Caiman spotting. The staff of the Amazon Spanish College are extremly helpful in arranging day excursions and weekend excursions to natural reserves in the area.
Popular are jungle trips to the nearby Amazon jungle, the natural reserve Marasha in Peru, the national park Amacayacu, the Ticuna settlement Puerto Nariño, Isla de los Micos (Monkey Island) and the visit of communities of the Ticuna, Yagua, Huitoto and Bora tribes. It is also nice to hire a Bicycle or go on a night time safari.
I had a basic level of spanish when I arrived in Leticia, but after 6 weeks of intensive course I can now speak spanish and get around well. Try this adventure! You will never regret it.
