Swim with the Manatees, Crystal River Snorkeling The Highlight of our Vacation!! Nov 30, 2010 12:38 pm My family and I traveled from New Hampshire to Orlando for Thanksgiving. My sister suggested that we make a day trip to Crystal River where you can swim with the manatees. She did some research and chose River Ventures. No doubt that she made the right decision picking this company. We arrived for the early tour at a shop that was clean and filled with friendly staff. We were made to feel like family and everyone was completely comfortable After enjoying some free pastries and coffee we watched a short video that covered some important rules for swimming with the manatees. We were to the boat and on the water before any other tours. Captain Donovan was great, he took us right to an area where there were several manatees. As soon as the anchor was lowered we had 2 manatees right in front of the boat, one was at the ladder and the other was investigating the rope connected to the anchor. The whole family was able to get in the water and swim with these manatees for at least an hour. Captain Donovan then took us to a place called The Sisters Spring which was an awesome site. I didn't even know that places like this existed here in the U.S. although there we no manatees in this spring there were tons of fish and the water was like swimming in an aquarium.
If you are looking to do something out of the ordinary and totally awesome then you should visit River Ventures and take one of their manatee tours.
