Mendocino Getaway Ride Marie -- Aug 13, 2012 10:33 am MENDOCINO GETAWAY RIDE I’ve ridden in several countries and the 4-day Mendocino Getaway Ride (June, 2012) was this year’s choice. My decision to ride in the States rather than booking a riding trip abroad was without regret. Look out Ireland, Portugal, Spain. It just doesn’t get any better than Redwood Forest, vast ranches and Pacific Ocean vistas, presented to you by Ricochet Ridge Ranch. Vida, my personal guide, is the consummate horsewoman, knowledgeable and safety-conscious, as well as possessing a 6th sense for the rider’s comfort and skill level. She was professional to a fault. Toss in hysterically funny and fun to be with and it made for great companionship and a memorable experience. Ask for Vida! My horse, Zvesda, needed a new name so I dubbed her Nadia Comanici. She was fantastic! Vida had selected her for me and we made a great team. Whether tackling the steep hills of the countryside or cantering the wide-open beaches of Mac Kerricher State Park, Nadia was a joy to ride and she remained my mount for the four-day trek. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. To the solo traveler I say, ”fear not”. I flew from NY to San Francisco, grabbed a rental car, drove to Mendocino (an exhilarating and beautiful drive!) where I stayed at the lovely MacCallum House Inn. The daily ride to Ricochet Ridge Ranch was quick and easy. After riding each day, I spent hours exploring the tiny and picturesque town of Mendocino; taking pictures, shopping or enjoying a glass of wine back at the inn. Mendocino is walkable, friendly and safe. With it’s Victorian architecture, old water towers, abundant flowers and of course, ocean views, it was a true delight. Just do it. Marie Triller Albany, New York WOW! Is all I can say about Ricochet Ridge Ranch Cindy -- Jun 27, 2012 10:46 pm This ranch is so awesome. The people are so sweet and kind they make you want to go again. I took my grand daughter and she rode Hobo a very kid friendly horse and I rode Cowboy, both horses were awesome. Our Guide was the sweetest and very informative of our surroundings. Tracy was our guide and she ROCKS. Thanks Tracy for an eye opening experience that I will cherish forever. Thanks to William who helped my grand daughter accross the main Highway, he is a great kid and very pleasant and polite. horse lover's dream Joan -- Jul 29, 2010 06:31 pm The BEST of horse lover's vacations-the many reviews say it all but I have been twice as a solo woman traveler and love the well-known Lari Shea and her horses at Ricochet. She provides excellent and professional guides(I have had Chris and Masha on private multi-day rides and loved them both), her horses are well bred, beautiful, in excellent shape with smooth gates and they can be chosen to accomodate all levels of riders. Believe me, no "Whoa and Go's". The professional rider will be very pleased with these horses. The beach must be experienced but my favorite place to ride is the mysterious woods surrounding the quiet, winding miles of challenging mountain pathways and the giant redwoods, ferns and clear streams. It is truly a piece of heaven. I will return soon! Spring Break At Ricochet Ridge Ranch April 2010 Deb -- Apr 09, 2010 12:19 am I spent two days of my one week vacation riding horses on the beach at Ricochet Ridge Ranch and loved every minute of it! If it wasn't for the rain the first part of the week I would have ridden everyday! They matched me perfect to a horse named Hobo and I was so glad they take requests. I requested the same horse and the same guide, Olivia, (she did a great job) both days and wish this vacation wasn't ending tomorrow or I would ride again! It was an experience of a life-time. Thanks to all at Ricochet Ridge Ranch, Fort Bragg, CA. I will return next time I'm in Fort Bragg. Deb Sutherland, teacher on vacation from Nevada Great Equine Adventure Dolly -- Sep 27, 2009 02:51 pm For an experience of a lifetime, do go on this weeklong adventure along the beach and upland in Ft Bragg/Mendocino area. The horses are true athletes and aim to please as does the entire staff. The trots, canters, walks (& even a gallop or two) were outstanding and thrilling. |
