We stayed in a coastline view room with kitchenette and LOVED it! We cooked all but 1 of our meals in room, and had everything we needed. (theres a trader joes, whole foods and Ralphs all in 1 shopping center about a 10 minute car drive away). And it was a nice surprise to come back to clean dishes that we had left in the sink too!
We had a great view of the ocean from our nice sized patio. Our bed was super comfy and we LOVED the open layout of the room with the bars tools and bar between kitchenette and rest of room.
The hotel is ON the beach. And the beach is beautiful. We walked around the corner to rent boogie boards (surf boards and kayaks also available).
We enjoyed the complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas every day and loved to just sit our chairs on the edge of the water and let the surf run up on our feet.
And as a totally unexpected bonus we swam with leopard sharks 3 of the days we were there. They congregated just around the surf break and it was AMAZING to get to be in their midst. They are totally harmless to humans, so we did this without fear..... Mostly.
Everything about this hotel, location and ocean exceeded our expectations and we HIGHLY recommend.

As some reviewers mention, the hotel is older, but it has been well maintained. It is clean and has character. We stayed in a room that overlooked the pool/courtyard but still faced the ocean. With two small children (4 and 1) it was great to have access to the beach so that one of us could entertain our 4 yr old at the beach while her 1 year old brother took a nap in the room with Daddy. The entire staff was polite, helpful and deligent in patrolling the pool area to make sure kids were safe and not getting too out of control. I would absolutely stay here again and would definitely recommend to others. The only recommendation that would have made our stay better was if a small microwave was available in the room.

La Jolla Shores is a wonderful hotel/resort. It is right on the beach where all the activity is happening. Each day, you'll see people snorkeling, diving, swimming, surfing and playing on the beach. Several kayak tours start right on the beach by the hotel. The hotel has a wonderful restaurant and is also a block from a small downtown area where there are several restaurants and small shops and stores. La Jolla is only about 10 miles from San Diego, so trips to the zoo, Old Town, etc. are a quick, easy drive. We loved this hotel and our trip to this area.
This hotel was in a great location...right on the beach! It was also within walk

The La Jolla Shores Hotel is in a great location...right on the beach and walking distance to great restaurants and shops! The hotel is old,but has a feeling of Old Mexico, with saltillo tile and fountains in the courtyard! The rooms are fairly large, but not very updated! The hotel is clean and the staff was friendly, but not very attentive. The workout room was very small, but who needs a big workout room when the beach is right outside your door! The pool is not very great, but again, theres the beach! Since there are a limited number of newer hotels on the beach, this is one of the better ones! Overall....a very nice spot for some r and r or shopping, eating or watching the sunsets!

Pros: Good rates for La Jolla. Friendly staff. Not snobbish like the "private hotel" next to it.
Cons: Noisy rooms due to paper thin walls and ceilings; could hear every footstep of upstairs guests at 4am. I recommend getting a room on the 3rd floor. Place needs some remodeling.
