Good value for the money. Short walk to the beach & we requested a room on an upper floor because I had read that there was a lot of street noise at night. Room was small and basic. I had read that the interior was recently renovaed but they did not do a stellar job. For example, someone must have noticed that an area had been missed when our room was repainted and it was touched up BUT with a different color-close but not quite matching. A big plus was that you couldn't hear the neighbors and having a tiny balcony was a nice touch.

It's now August 2011 and I am planning another trip to Hawaii. I was there for 2 months (Aug-Oct) in 2009. I am a single woman and was on my own. I tried several different hotels during the time I was in Waikiki. (I also on Maui). The Aqua Bamboo was my favorite place during that entire stay. I would stay at one hotel for a week, then while walking the streets I would find different hotels that looked interesting. The Bamboo was one of those. I think I stayed there during my third week. I should have stayed for the fourth week too!
Everything was close by: grocery stores, movie rentals, fun little shops and good places to eat that weren't pricey.
I could get up at sunrise and be at the beach in 2 minutes. I walked in the quiet every morning.
I could stay out at night and walk around until all the shops closed and feel completely save by myself - And everyone should know not to be out on the streets after the shops close. On Maui, everything closed down with the sun and it was so dark I didn't even feel safe walking along the beach by myself.
I don't sleep well and could come down to the lobby at 3am and there was always someone there to talk to (front desk staff, security, and maintenance were great.
I loved the outside pool area. Complete privacy. It's like a secret in the middle of all there big huge hotels.
I loved it and will be back in 2011!
Need i say more...there was a roach in my room...i couldn't sleep well for the next three days after seeing it. most of the staff are unfriendly. ...
Need I say more...there was a roach in my room...I couldn't sleep well for the next three days after seeing it. Most of the staff are unfriendly. The only upside is the cost and distance from the beach.

I visited in 2010. The hotel was A+ from the friendly, helpful staff to the quaintness of the hotel. It was just wonderful. Just 2 short blocks to the beach and downtown waikiki. I would definately go back.
