The best part of our experience here was the food at the on site restaurant – it was wonderful. Everything else was a big disappointment. We arrived to be put in a very old room with spider webs everywhere. It was hot in the room as the sun had been shining in all day and we were told that the air conditioning had already been shut off for the year and we should open the windows to cool the room down. The engineering guys did bring in a fan which helped move air around, but explained that this was an old building. I was very disappointed with my stay here and would not return. The windows had to be open all night and made the room tolerable, but not comfortable. The TV was old, the remote was dirty and the TV reception was poor. I expected so much more after spending time on the website for this resort – perhaps other rooms here are better – but I would not chance it. I made the mistake of seeing 25% off of what appeared to be a high end room rate room here and thought I would be getting a nice room at a discount – I should have known better.
Beautiful, outdoorsy setting just minutes from the Plaza

This historic property fit the needs of our family with children perfectly. The junior suite with pull-out bed comfortably accomodated 4 and the historic, adobe buildings are cool and comfortable, even in the scorching heat of July. It is not to the level of a "luxury" resort, largely due to variability in service and amenities. When we checked in, maintenance personnel (instead of a bellhop) were sent to help us with our bags and came in a vehicle so dirty, they refused to put our soft-sided bags in for fear of soiling them. After driving for 8+ hours to get there, this was exasperating. At other times, we had exceptional service, particularly in the restaurant, the stables, and at the poolside grill. The ice machine was broken and their dryer apparently broke, leading to a towel-shortage at the pool. The morning trailride was far superior to most I have done in the past, as the wrangler was knowledable and entertaining and the horses were well-trained and well-cared for. The scenery on the ride was as good as it gets in New Mexico (which is never as breath-taking as Colorado). The hiking trails are well-marked and easy enough even for children and those from sea-level altitudes. The kids club was staffed with enthusiastic teenagers, and our kids had a great time doing arts and crafts and swimming. Overall, we'll be back to Bishop's Lodge, but only for a reasonable rate!

I came up from Albuquerque NM for the weekend. I brought my daughter along because someone had told me about their kids camp. I was able to enjoy a horseback ride while my daughter enjoyed the resort activities they offered. Great setting against the national forest. Very historic and great family friendly resort.

The place is falling apart. Almost all my complaints are related to the physical state of the place. The first room was completely unacceptable. Decor was c.1975. Dark bathroom with non functioning tub and toilet. Filthy stained carpet. Smoke smell. No central air/heat.
We were moved to another room. The shower reminded me of a college dorm shower. Bathroom always smelled musty. The bed was saggy and uncomfortable.
Not that I go on vacation to watch TV, but with small children, you need it sometimes. The TV was probably a 20 year old tube tv.
The coffee machine produces undrinkable dishwater coffee. I only mention this because they specifically itemize this under the list of things that the resort fee covers.
The restaurant food was completely disgusting. My son's steak appeared to have been microwaved. The vegetables were frozen "steam in bag" tasting or worse. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR WHAT THEY CHARGED!
The staff however was very kind and tried to help. Unfortunately there was not much they could do.
I would never recommend this place and won't be coming back.
