Imagine filthy walls, carpet, windows so dirty you could hardly see out of them -- and then add and bugs, both dead and alive. That's the picture still lodged in my horrified mind after spending one sleepless night in one of the original cabins at Pocahontas Cabins. Before opening the door we already knew that this was not the adorable cabin we had seen in photos and booked for our stay. That cabin was across the road, filled with happy travelers. Instead, we were given a key to this atrocity they dared rent to unsuspecting travelers who booked online. The front desk staff would not move us to a better cabin, saying there were no vacancies. We paid more for this shack than we did for 4-star downtown hotels. There are two types of cabins: new, nice ones, and awful old ones. Avoid booking any cabin here that might be called a "settler", "pioneer" or "original" cabin. We booked a "deluxe" 2 bedroom with a double pullout, thinking it would be cute log cabin shown in all the online photos, but we were put in one of the old rundown units. The newer ones may be called "executive". There was absolutely zero security in these cabins. Anyone could have crawled through the open windows -- especially the bedroom where there wasn't even a screen on the window. To be fair, the management did send someone to put in a screen after we complained. There are no phones in the room, and our cellphones would not pick up a signal.

We thought we had carefully booked the cabin pictured on the websites - two bedrooms with a double pullout in the 'living room'. Instead we were given an 'original' cabin, sometimes called a 'pioneer' cabin in the advertisements. Be sure to book the EXECUTIVE cabins -- these seemed to be much nicer on the outside at least. The facility is not as spacious as the photography makes it look. The cabins are jammed together. There was no parking space for the car by the cabin. The rundown cabin was filthy, flea and bug infested, and missing a screen on one of the windows. The two bedrooms did not even have light switches on the walls; they were so small there was barely room enough for the bed. No room to set luggage. Only one electrical plug in the living room. We asked the front office for another cabin but were told there was no vacancy. A couple before us had made a similar request. The cabins are 30 minutes from Jasper -- very inconvenient. It took us almost an hour to get there from Jasper (traffic jams from wildlife). No scenic views. From our living room window we had a view of a huge red truck parked three feet from the cabin. Worst place we've stayed in many, many years. Although we had booked two nights we left after the first, and would not have stayed that night if we had not arrived so late. The price is outrageous for cabins that are so filthy and run down. There are far better cabins for the price closer to Jasper.

Came with 2 other friends for a girls long weekend getaway and had a great time. We stayed in the deluxe cabin and it was clean and well equiped. The living room was a little smaller than I would have liked as we had to move the table and chairs out of the way to pull out the sofa bed but that was minor. I also noticed some of the other cabins had bigger televisions than our cabin which was too bad as we had brought movies out with us to watch in the evenings. Also the television was high up and hard to reach as was the microwave which was above the fridge but they definately put a lot of stuff in a small amount of space.
The restaurant was closed for everything but the free breakfast when we were there but we had no problem going into town to eat most of the time as we were planning on being around town anyway. The breakfast was typical continental which suited us fine.
The hot tub was an awesome experience in the evening to be able to look up and see the brilliant stars. As we were there in February we didn't get to experience the outdoor pool.
Staff were always helpful and polite. No complaints there.
Small gift shop on site was good to pick up last minute souveniers but a bit more expensive than hiting one of the shops in town.
Games room was great. Free board games, pool table, darts, ping pong, shuffleboard, airhockey, and books.
All around a great experience and we are all looking forward to making it an annual event and returning next year.

My husband & I went for a quiet weekend away, and were pleasantly surprised by the Pocahontas Cabins. The 1 bedroomed cabin we had was adequately equipped, clean and cosy, and provided everything we needed to enjoy our weekend. The site overall was clean, tidy and fully equipped, staff were more than helpful, and the restaurant food was great. Fantastic value, nearby to lots of attractions, yet in the quiet area of Pocahontas, would definately go there again without hesitation.

Were a family of 4, with 2 small children, and like most on a budget. We took advantage of the Soak & Sun Package for * per night. We were served a great hot breakfast of our choice from there menu FREE, We also received some FREE passes to the hotsprings for our family. I am really impressed with being able to find a place to stay that isn't going to cost you alot of money. We loved the cabins, they were roomy enough for us and our stuff. We were able to also save money by brining our own food as there was a fridge in our room and BBQ's right next to our cabin.
