First time writing a review. Very disappointed in our stay (we are still here). Couple points - Positives 1) fantastic setting and the Cotteges are solid - great for families 2) Latitudes restaurant is very good
1) Check in is a difficult - The cotteges are a sub set of the Weston Sunset Key resort. The cotteges are supposed to be high end - We checked in and had to wait 15 to 20 minutes for someone to show up at the desk. After waiting - for awhile - three people showed up all at once from the back
2) Concierge - booking things to do in advance was nearly impossible - we called three times in advance. Once - we were put on hold and I gave up. Second time it just rang. And third time - she said she'd call back and never did. Finially - we called a fourth time and got ahold of someone who was helpful. That said - Jenny (from Wisconsin) is fantastic. She has been great since we've been here
3) Beach - bring your shoes. Its exceptionally rocky. Fine when you are wearing surfing shoes, but can not run into water without them (not kidding here - really bad coral/rocks)
4) Staff - wayyyyyy understaffed. I feel bad for the waiter on the beach. One guy trying to serve 40 people. They are losing a ton a revenue here. The waiter was trying real hard, but had to walk back to the main restaurant to retrieve drink orders, then carry it all back. Need more people. What's confusing is there are 2 guys that hang out that are supposed to be helping with chairs, but all they do is sit under the palm hut. The first 2 days, we had to find empty chairs and then find cusions and set everything up. I have no problem doing this when things are busy, but there was a hotel staff member 50 feet away on his cell phone. Same issue with the pool. One guy serving the entire pool.
Staff part 2) (which prompted this note) - 8 am in the morning and tried to go to the gym. The door is broken. Logical assumption there would be some one available to talk to. There is litereally no one in the entire Main Area of the main Cottege. No One - its 8am!
Staff part 3) Nearly everyone is on their cell phone (except for the guys at the pool and the waiter on the beach).
Restaurant - the main restaurant is fantastic and the food at the pool is great as well. When ordering food at the pool - expect a 30 min wait at least.
Net - I really feel bad for some of the staff - most of them are really great, just way over burdened. The hotel is leaving alot on the table at this resort. Check in should be more seemless (have someone at the desk during main check in hours - we arrived at 130 and there was no one there).
Impressed with the resort. Very unimpressed with the stay.

I am writing this review almost a year after out vacation at Sunset Key. Yet, I feel a wave of calm wash over me as I reflect on our stay. It is a lovely place. Lush landscaping, white sand beaches, an occasional hammock overlooking the water, quiet. It's a short ferry ride away from the hustle and bustle of Key West. Yet, it's a world away. We visited Key West daily during our stay, but always looked forward to returning to our retreat. The restaurant is fabulous. Excellent food, excellent service, with outside tables at the edge of the white beach. We enjoyed it so much that we ate lunch and dinner there almost every day. The cottages are every bit as lovely as the photographs on the website. The porch was a delightful place to spend each morning reading over the complimentary paper that had just been delivered along with a basket of freshly-prepared pastries. I cannot wait to go back.....

I would definitely stay here again. The island is serene, beautiful, and only a 5 minute ferry ride from Key West. The new Latitudes restaurant is wonderful - excellent cuisine, attentive service, and right on the beach (some tables are even set in the sand!).

My wife and I travel often and like to stay in nice places. Sunset Key is the best by FAR! Get there before you die. You will never forget it. We find ourselves comparing every other vacation to our time spent at Sunset Key.....nothing compares.

My husband and I spent our 39th anniversary at Sunset Key Cottages and were delighted by the peaceful setting and easy access to old town Key West. The cottages are spacious and beautifully appointed, the beds are indeed ""heavenly,"" and the garden views are as pretty as the ocean views. Bring your beach shoes because the beach is pristine and private but the shells can be sharp. Dinner served on the beach under a full moon was the crowning touch and we will definitely be back.
