Yes, the furniture and carpeting is old, but it's all very clean, and the staff is fantastic. I loved the "angle" room we had. We could view both the beach and the street from our balcony. The kind sized bed was very comfy with six pillows!! I can never have too many pillows!
The AC unit was old too, but it didn't shut off and turn on all night long. I can't stand that. I've stayed in hotels where that happens, and I'm awake all night. This stays on all night and has a great "white noise" effect. I slept like a baby.
The only complaint that I had was the shower head. It's very low. My husband is 6'6" and practically had to sit to wash his hair. I'm 5'7" and had to bend to wash mine. Other than that, though, I really liked every about this place. Location was great too. It was the Fall Bike Rally when we went (early October), and we could sit and watch the bikes when we wanted to, but we were far enough away that the bike noise didn't interfere with our sleep.

Yes, the Dayton House is a little old compared to all of the newer hotels in the area, but for me, it was PERFECT. We arrived from the airport in the morning. Check in time is usually 3 p.m. Our room was actually ready, so they let us check in early. That gave us a whole extra day of vacation!!
We had a corner room with a king sized bed and kitchenette. Fantastic!! Very quiet because it was on the corner, and also had a "wrap-around" balcony so we could either view the beach or the street. It was the Fall Bike Rally, so we loved being able to sit and watch the bikes from our balcony.
The room was clean and the staff was very friendly and efficient. The bed was even comfortable and cozy - 6 pillows!!! I couldn't ask for more!
The only complaint that I would have is the shower head. It is very low. My husband is 6'6" tall, and almost had to sit to wash his hair. I'm 5'7", and I had to bend a little to wash mine.
I LOVED the air conditioning unit. I've been in hotels where it goes off and all all night, and wakes me up every time it shuts off and turns back on. This one stays on all night long. I am very big on white noise at night. I have a fan at home that is run all year long because I love the white noise to block out all other noises. Some people wouldn't like this, but I did!!
We may make this an annual trip and we will stay at the Dayton House again!

We were really happy to have stayed here. The staff were nice, and the grounds were clean. The hotel room was a bit outdated, but since it's right on the beach, you are hardly in your room. I do have to say, however, that while the attractions (the amusements on one end and Broadway on the other) are technically walkable, they are a really, really far walk. We live in a major metropolitan where all we do is walk, and we found the walk to these attractions to be quite a journey (especially the walk to Broadway where there was a lack of sidewalks and other fellow walkers). If we had to do this over, we would have definitely rented a car, as taxis are scarce by the hotel areas. We found the amusements area to be a bit rough for our taste, especially in the evening. Perhaps it's nicer and less rowdy during the day time. I would definitely not take children there in the evening as people seemed to be a bit inebriated or just wanting to start unnecessary fights. For nighttime activities, go to the Broadway area as it is much, much classier. As for food, the pizza at California Pizza was delicious and right next door to them is an old-school ice cream parlor with the most delicious ice cream! Pancakes are abundant and all are delicious. Oh, and water is scarce in the vending machines, so make sure to buy some water in a mini-mart for your fridge before they close.
