We spent Easter 2009, 9 nights/10days on board the Katharina on the Bali to Flores trip visiting Komodo. I could go on & on about everything, how great it was!! But I'll keep this as short as I can without making it too sanitary.
Food = way above average, always freshly prepared & lots of fresh fruit & veg, fish & meat. Tasty!!
Hospitality = 5 star +++
Crew = extremely professional & HAPPY!! Great baby-sitters (played on the beach with our 2 year old girl while we snorkeled with our 4 yr old son) & our kids still talk about them.
Cruise Director = knowledgeable, affable, helpful & caring. He even arranged for my husband to scuba dive a couple of times by rendez-vous with a dive boat while in Komodo area. Katharina is not a dedicated dive boat & they really went out of their way to make it possible for my husband to dive. When we were accompanied ashore to snorkel, we were never left alone on the beach as 2 crew members always stayed with us (& even played with the kids). They never forgot to bring drinks either.
Boat = well equipped & comfortable, totally modern.
Places visited = The Sea Gypsies in Sumbawa were over excited to see our kids as they rarely see young white kids on cruises. This scared our kids, who live in Indonesia & are used to being mauled by locals...so if you have young ones it may be wise to leave them on board. Otherwise, the Bugis village was fine to visit, where they make the pinisi schooners in the traditional way. Great to visit. Komodo is a must see for everyone, Flores too!!
DON'T HESITATE...IT'S NOT CHEAP, BUT IT'S WORTH IT!! BOOK IT & HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY!!!
