The excellent front desk service provided by ABC, made what could have been a frustrating experience instead a relaxed and enjoyable experience at the Sheraton Carlsbad. In booking last minute, my husband attempted to contact the hotel directly. Despite dialing the local number, every time he attempted to make the reservation, he was connected to central reservations. We needed connecting double rooms on short notice to accommodate our family. Central reservations assured my husband this was available. When we got to the hotel, it was fully booked. While they did have rooms for us, the two rooms were not even in the same building, much less connecting. Apparently, central reservations did not even note this requirement in the reservation. Angela listened politely and responded professionally in explaining the situation to us. While she could not get us the room type promised to us the first night (we all crowded into a standard double room), she waived cancellation charges for the second room, and got us the connecting rooms for the second night. While we did have to pack our bags the next morning, she had the hotel staff transfer our belongings to the connecting rooms the next day while we were out and about. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The grounds are lovely and the pool warm enough to swim in even in winter. The restaurant serves delicious breakfast at reasonable prices. Our first room was on the second floor facing the parking lot. While trees provided adequate visual screening, it was quite noisy at night. Our rooms in Building D the second night were much quieter. The hotel is close to La Jolla Village with its wonderful restaurants and shopping, and a short drive to Legoland (our prime destination this trip).

We chose this hotel due to it's close proximity to Legoland. We thought it would be a convenient time saver. Wrong! The trek to the private entrance combined with the long line and ultra slow ticket taker took at least 20 min. even with pre-purchased tix. This hotel is clean but nothing special. It is not really kid-friendly. Even though we had a reservation we were given a room with a king bed for 2 adults & 2 kids. They said they had no other room and had a rollaway sent to our room. Also has a high parking fee.

I was not pleased to pay a required extra fee for use of the pool and fitness area. I did not have the intention or the time to use the facilities and it was cold a rainy...so no pool time. There also was a $12 per day fee, for SELF PARKING!
