Great, cheap place to stay in Kyoto Nika -- Jan 16, 2010 01:21 am OK so this was my first experience in a hostel. I was a little taken aback by the lack of cleanliness in the common area and kitchen, but once I got past that, the experience was actually quite nice. We had a private room with our own shower, and a shared toilet for the upstairs. The room was fairly large and the shower was nice. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. the location is great for sightseeing, especially for those interested in temples. It is very convenient to many temples by bus, and a very close subway ride to other attractions. Everyone says this place is hard to find, and it is, so here are some very detailed directions: Exit #3 from Demachiyanagi station on Keihan line. - Turn left out of the exit (not toward the bridge/river, the other direction. Keep walking on Imadegawa dori for several blocks past a park. If you get to Shell gas station, you've gone too far. Turn LEFT on Marikoji dori (small street). Keep walking for several blocks. you will walk past a restaurant/bar on your right, a bicycle repair shop on your left. When you pass the small streets, glance to your right because the hostel is right there. you won't see it off the street you are walking on, so look right whenever you pass the little streets. It will be right there, it looks like an apartment building, and the name is written on the wall, there is also a vending machine right outside. Hope this helps. |
