Home from home in Chongqing Jenny -- Oct 07, 2010 04:21 am We've just come back from a short stay in Chongqing which was made (almost) perfect by our stay at the Sunrise Mingqing Hostel. Located in a tiny back-alley area of downtown Chongqing, this oasis of calm and beauty gives you a restful stay and a real insight into Chongqing life. The steep steps down from street level and the close proximity of local life should put off only the most pampered of tourists (who would be better off all round in bland city hotels). Bason, one of the hostel's employees, saved our holiday by going out of his way to help us deal with some unexpected visa issues during one of China's busiest holiday weeks. He kept phoning to check up on us during our subsequent (painful) days at the PSB. Truly outstanding service. On top of all that, the rooms are traditionally decorated, clean and thoughtfully arranged. The downstairs communal space is a good place to meet other travellers - Chinese and non-Chinese - and the street food nearby is outstanding. I never usually write reviews but just had to warmly recommend this place to any keen China explorer. |
