Home away from home

Several years ago I was introduced to juice fasting while at the Gentle Earth retreat and my life has never been the same. I've been to both locations, NY and Costa Rica, and my heart is still in Costa Rica for I truly feel it is my home away from home.
I am in my late 20's and the majority of my life I've suffered from Crohn's disease, experiencing all sorts of digestive issues including excruciating pain on a regular basis. While juicing, I experienced for the first time what it felt like to be pain free and I am forever grateful. I've taken the extensive knowledge that I've been gifted and used it to basically get a clean bill of health. The last colonoscopy I had the doctors words verbatim were "Whatever you are doing, keep doing, you look great." Needless to say those aren't words I'd ever heard before. I no longer take any prescription medicine and am able to live happily and comfortably with a healthy lifestyle. Mainly eating a vegan and gluten-free diet, sure to get as many nutrients and protein as I can on a regular basis.
While I know there is no perfect diet, and I do slip up periodically and eat foods I know don't serve me, over all these past few years my diet has changed drastically and has served me tremendously. I do my best to make it a point to visit at least once a year for this luxurious opportunity to be served the most amazing juices I've ever had, to be reminded of the importance of healthy eating and to feel so fully supported on this healing journey. Juicing for even just a week seems to restart my body's functioning, taste buds and self healing abilities in ways I never could have imagined possible. Healthy food just tastes better after a juice fast!
While juice FEASTing (describing perfectly the feeling while detoxing through this unique fast) provides an incredible opportunity to detox, restart our bodies so to speak, loose weight if need be and become more self aware of our bodies in general, it's not the only way. The recent addition to the retreat of offering healthy meals in addition to some juice is another wonderful opportunity to get to take advantage of the beautiful facility, the incredible community and to get to learn more about how diet can change our lives in perhaps a less intimidating way. I assure you I was a bit intimidated the first time I left for a week long juice retreat, but my nerves were settled upon arrival. I never felt I was on my own or even ever hungry really. More than anything I was energized, feelings as though I could do anything, and fully nourished by the amazing nutrients that plants offer us. At the end of a 7 days feast, I was ready to do it again, and have continued to go back ever since.
If you are indecisive as to whether or not you'd like to go, I hope this review has inspired you and that you choose to do this for your self, you deserve it. If you'd like to juice and bring someone that isn't interested, they can always choose the healthy food option and still be right there with you!
Cheers to good health!
Raves for Gentle Earth in Costa Rica

This place changed my life and the life of my daughter. Not only is the retreat Paradise, complete with pool and delicious juices ... but the evening classes taught us about nutrition and helped us understand and do the best things for our bodies. And it was fun!!
Groups are small and attention is personal. I defy you to attend and not leave with new best friends ... guests are like-minded, trying to fix their health issues ... but you will also leave being friends with the owners/creators Jeff and Kathy.
All guests are treated like adults. You can take yoga classes, outdoors next to the pool under a sheltered open-air room. Or sleep in if tired. Or hike. Or read. Or catch up on your emails. Or watch a movie ... they have a huge library of DVDs to loan out to you.
You can have structure if you want it or do your own thing if your body and mind want more rest.
You will fall in love with Pedro, the chiuahau, who thinks he runs the place. I have great pictures of him trying to climb a rustic wooden ladder to get to the roof where his mistress Kathy is doing repairs after a tropical downpour.
The rooms are adorable, comfy and perfect, each with it's own private bath and each unique.
I have only fantastic things to say about Jeff and Kathy and this magical retreat they have built, and all the lives they have changed, with gentleness, love, knowledge, awesomely tasty juices and various nut soups for dinner. I love these people, this place, the things I learned and still do at home and I promise you will too. I paid for my daughter to go the first time just because I knew it would change her life. Ditto for my son on a separate trip.
Can't say enough. Wish I were more eloquent. I love these people, who saved their own lives by learning juicing and nutrition, then wanted to share. They have become part of their community in Costa Rica, and have their own two-person band that sometimes performs at a restaurant in Cabuya, the closest town a few miles from the retreat. Hope you get to hear them ... sometimes they will practice during your retreat. This place is truly alive and helps bring that vibrance into your life as well.
Plus, everyone loses weight, in a healthy way, and you're pretty much never hungry. I am not kidding and I love to eat.
