One and a half hours from Dallas, or from Shreveport, this part of Texas features towering pines, green pastures and woods, and a slower pace of living than other areas. Cattle graze,but on green grass, rather than on mesquite and tumbleweeds. The nearest large city is Tyler, 30 miles away, known for rose production and the Azalea Trail. Grand Saline, 12 miles away, came into being as a salt mining town while Van, three miles away, has a cotton growing/oil production history.
