Aconcagua Our Specialty!

At 22,841 ft (6961m), Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere and our most popular mountaineering destination. Aconcagua serves as a great introduction to high altitude expedition climbing.
After 20 years of climbing Aconcagua with family and climbers from all over the world, it has become our home away from home. Each time that we set out to scale Aconcagua, base camp at Plaza de Mulas (14,000 ft.) is always a welcome site after the scenic trek from the park entrance.
Our groups are always greeted with open arms from our extended family of base camp coordinators. Our expedition cooks, porters, and managers are an integral part of our guide service. We have worked and climbed together for many seasons, which results in our well organized base camp and a familial group atmosphere. We are community of friendly and passionate mountain people, who are excited to share with you our culture and the unforgettable adventure of climbing Aconcagua with you.

ACONCAGUA THE CLIMBING ROUTES

We first climbed this mountain in 1987. Since then, we have climbed multiple routes and explored every valley and ridge. Patagonian Brothers now offers nontechnical and technical ascents on four routesThe Northwest Ridge (The Normal Route), The Polish Traverse and The Polish Direct, and in 2002, in search of new and unexplored ways to get to the top, we opened a new route on the West face, The Flight of the Condor.
All are physically demanding adventures and involve all the complexities of expedition climbing.

We look forward to serving you on the route of your choice.

Normal Route via the NW Ridge

The Normal Route is our most popular. Although the route is a mountain walk rather than a technical climb, the altitude and the possibility of sudden weather changes make this a very physical and challenging expedition. While most of the mountain is on loose talus fields, often times we need an ice axe and crampons for summit day.

Polish Glacier Traverse Route

This route is an excellent option for those of you looking for a more challenging climb to the summit of Aconcagua. The route begins in the much less traveled east side of Aconcagua, up the Vacas Valley. Once reaching the base of the Polish Glacier we traverse the mountain. After summiting, we descend the Normal Route. In total, this route offers a wide spectrum of the entire mountain. It travels through three different river valleys the Vacas, Relinchos and Horcones, and past the four tremendous main faces of Aconcagua. It is the full mountain experience.

Polish Glacier Direct Route

The Polish Glacier is the technical route to the summit of Aconcagua. A beautiful high altitude climb of moderate difficulty. This route is for the intermediate to advanced mountaineer with glacier climbing and ice climbing skills. This route involves belayed climbing with exposure. Technical climbing experience is required, as the steepest section of this route reaches up to 60 degrees. It is without a doubt, more akin to elemental alpine mountaineering than the other routes.
