The Black Duck is located on the Schoodic Peninsula, home to the only mainland section of Acadia National Park and also hosts a portion of the Petite Manan National WIldlife Refuge. The Peninsula has nearly 5 lighthouses located within its bounds or off shore. Schoodic consists of several small fishing villages like Corea the scenery is some of the best in Maine with hiking trails nearby, as well as fabulous kayaking waters and scenery for painting and photogoraphy. Only 45 minutes from Mt. Desert Island, the main part of Acadia National Park. Other wildlife refuges are not far away. Campobello Island, FDR's old summer estate is only about 1.5 hrs, north/east in the Canadian Province of New Brunswick, across an "international" bridge. That area hosts 2 incredible lighthouses and amazing coastal scenery and makes a terrific day trip.

We have drawn from our experience of carrying passengers on a traditional rigged sailing ship to create a custom design for your safety and comfort. the coach house
One of the favorite shipboard places for relaxation is the deck house. The deck house is completely protected from the weather, with lots of windows, beautiful varnished wood panels, a reading library, comfortable couches and even a traditional shipmate stove. At night, the salon is filled with lantern light, song and stories. Musical instruments are always welcome!

The belowdeck salon is laid out in the typical style of a 19th century pilot schooner, with a warm comfortable wood interior. It was designed for educational films and natural history demonstrations, and can double as an informal classroom.

But our loving restoration of the WANDERBIRD has retained the feeling of the old Dutch fishing vessel by using traditional materials wherever possible.
